It's 11:15 pm, I have no lip balm and I have the driest lips, thanks to this cold that's making it impossible to breathe threw my nose.. Any things found at home that would help?

Vaseline won't help, coconut oil will help marginally more than that. Why not have someone go out and grab you some? Also, if you have face moisturizer, that works on lips as well. It won't feel super hydrating or thick, but it will certainly moisturize, unlike Vaseline or coconut oil.

Don't have Vaseline or coconut oil anyway. And everyone's asleep, also nothing open except for service stations and they're expensive

Vaseline works for me.

Vaseline isn't a moisturizer, it's a sealant. It's only sealing in what's already there, so if your lips are already dry, it won't help anything.

I have to disagree with Hanna. Vaseline helps me a lot. When times I needed something for my lips, and nothing I can grab, I use the regular vaseline. When I wake up in the morning my lips feel better. I don't know why it feels better. I get it it's a sealant, read it on the paper, people are telling that it is, but it works for me. So I guess to each is own. A month ago I found a vaseline lip therapy and that is what I'm using now. And I'm so happy.

If you have clarified butter than apply a thick layer to your lips (if not take a little bit of regular butter, melt it a little, add a drop of almond or olive oil, mix it all up and add it to your lips) Then add a thin layer of a sealant like Vaseline or Argan oil so that the moisturizer in the butter mixture will moisturize your lips and won't dry out because of your environment. You can do this 2 - 3 times a day depending on how bad your lips are. If you don't have a sealant its OK, but they tend to help. When you do have time to go out grab a wax and petroleum free lip balm. I like Carmex or Blistex

If I had nothing that night, I would have opted for Vaseline as well!!

I'm with Hannah, Vaseline really only keeps any moisture you already have in your lips- so technically if your lips are already in decent health and have a good bit of moisture in them, I guess Vaseline could help maintain that. But it doesn't offer the replenishment of moisture if your lips are chapped and dry. It seals the skin barrier so nothing gets in or out. Waking up with your lips feeling more moisturized is simply an illusion of moisturized skin because the Vaseline has prevented whatever water content you have in your skin from escaping. It's not actually nourishing your lips because it doesn't sink in, it just sits on top.

My suggestion would be to use any type of oil you have around the house, probably olive would be my choice because it would be less offensive on the lips taste/smell wise than say like canola oil lol. But definitely when you get up and other stores are open go get a petroleum free lip balm. I really like Alba botanica's Hawaiian lip balm. They have it in both pineapple and coconut and both have a lot of good moisturizing ingredients. The Yes To lines also make their lip balm without petroleum. If you want to splurge and get something super nice as well, I'd pick up some Fresh lip treatment (Sephora or Ulta) or a nighttime lip therapy like Bite Beauty Agave lip mask. I have heard amazing things about it and intend to buy it as soon as I have the money (its close to $30 but I've heard such rave reviews I must try it lol) Also, Jack Black is another of my favorites, also at Sephora and Ulta (not as cheap as a drugstore item but still attainably priced at $7.50)

The Bite lip mask is awesome for other people but I won't use it cos one of the beautylish member had a severe allergic reaction to that. It was a bummer cos I've heard a lot of good reviews about it. Well, like what I said to each is own. I'm still happy with my vaseline lip therapy and I'll continue to use it along with my Lush lip scrub.

I am with Mylene. Vaseline has worked very well for me. It may be a sealant, but it helps with soothing irritation. Again, it's personal preference...just like Mylene mentioned, Vaseline markets a products specifically for lips as well.

Vaseline alone won't make your lips any better. if it added all that moisture, I wouldn't have been putting it on my son's bad diaper rash. it's just a sealant. good luck with your lips!

Yeah, used it on my kids diaper rash in conjunction with zinc oxide..worked well. Just as it does for my lips.

I've been debating between the Bite and Fresh sugar lip product for my dry lips...saw the Bite tube and was very turned off. I've heard of it breaking down and being really hard to get product out if the tube...

No ma'am!! Hate you?!? Never! If I hated everyone w a difference in opinion from mine, I hate literally every person alive. Lol. You weren't rude at all.

I have heard it can be hard to get out and unfortunately the Fresh treatment actually has the opposite issue, it actually goes a little too fast because its so buttery and soft. I always seem to burn through my tube rather quickly and then have to go back to something else because I just can't always drop $22 on it. But it works wonders. I wish they would drop the price or have a deal on them occasionally so I could stock up so I wouldn't run out. They do a holiday set each year but I've never bothered because they're mini sizes and I don't use any of the colored ones, just the plain colorless one. But it's definitely very hydrating.
