That piercing is not very hurtful, I would say around 3 on the pain scale, and I did mine myself with a really bad, thick needle. The only thing is that you have to use ointment to prevent a infection :)

And I hate needles too! So don't worry :)

No should be painless they will most likely use the ear piercing gun, so you will have a stud in there at first take it out after a week give it a good clean and put a sleeper in there so it can breath and heal more and don't forget antiseptic spray which they will give you.

Don't let them pierce it with a gun, it isn't healthy for the piercing.

Carinda M.
No I don't know why they use a gun, studs are the worst when it's healing.
Apr 17, 2014
Shaye M.
Huh? Studs are the best whilst healing, they just have to be of good quality Jewelry.

See the studs made mine worse

I have quite a few ear piercings and I am such a wimp when it comes to pain. Lobe piercings barely hurt at all it is a sharp pinch sensation for cartalidge I had a gun and it was fine and healed quickly the pain was quite bad for a couple of seconds and then it disappeared, it was a little uncomfortable for a while but it was fine just keep it clean The gun was fine and made it quick and easy. If you don't like pain or needles you will still be fine xx

Did you have yours pierced with a gun? The reason it's bad to have anything pierced with a gun is because they're actually using the jewelry to pierce your face and it's not as sharp as it could be which leaves the piercing with a longer healing time and an unclean hole to begin with.

For how long will it hurt after I get it done?

I agree with Shaye! Piercings guns CANNOT be put in an autoclave like a needle can, meaning piercing guns CANNOT be sterilized. So whatever scummy piercer y'all have been going to I suggest finding someone who knows what they're doing lol. ☺️ I'm not trying to sound condescending in any way, your body is just going to be with your forever and piercings can do some serous damage if done incorrectly. Even the most basic ear lobe piercing should nottttt be done with a gun! Guns puncture the skin with a blunt force as well, versus a needle which will make a clean cut. The blunt force trauma of the gun will will lead to the longer healing time Shaye mentioned. Going to a piercer who uses a needle is 100% the best option.

^ Grace, you worded what I had In my head perfectly haha! And @ Selam, they'll tell you that you can change it in 6 weeks I believe but it won't be fully healed for a good few months.

You're welcome girl :) if you don't get any solution to clean it with you can also use rock salt diluted in warm water on it too, I've always used this to clean my piercings and have never had an infection! Good luck :)

I had my helix pierced at Claire's and I'm starting to think they used a gun. It took foreverrr to heal. At first it was just a pop. But then a few hours later it started to hurt. Lobes were just a little pinch pretty painless. But beware don't let a cartilage piercing grow over because you have a chance at damaged nerve pain. Where I had my helix, every once in awhile it starts to hurt.

I had my belly button done, my tongue is pierced, my nose is pierced, and my ears as a whole have seven earrings. the only piercing that was painful was my belly button. I'm not a fan of needles but I'm addicted to piercings. the pain scale is pretty low.

Bryanna, Claire's uses guns. They are not trained, unsanitary, and a really bad place in general to get anything pierced.
A gun forces the jewelry through the skin, that was the popping sound. This creates a traumatic wound that is at risk for scar tissue, infection, and will take longer to heal. It also causes more swelling, which adds to the discomfort.
Guns cannot go into a sterilizer (autoclave), nor can they be taken apart to be cleaned. This means that blood, plasma, and skin cells are trapped in the mechanism, exposing everyone to potential pathogens. This is one reason you have to sign a waiver to be pierced at these locations (so you don't sue if you end up with hepatitis or worse).
A professional piercer will use a sterilized needle (this is not the same as a sewing needle, please don't attempt this at home). They pierce the skin, then put in high quality jewelry. In most piercings, a stud or small bar is best for healing because it allows for swelling and is less likely to be caught on things.
The piercer will give you instructions on aftercare, including how to keep it clean and about how long it should take to heal (everyone is different, so don't change jewelry until it is ready).

Hey I got mine done and it didn't hurt much at all! It went red and felt hot after but was ok! If you keep using salt solution everyday it won't get infected. I stopped for a week and had a mild infection so just don't forget! I couldn't sleep on that side for about a month but you get used to it so it's not as bad as you think! Took about a year to heal properly. Don't use a gun as it can shatter the cartilage! X

I agree with everything shaye and grace said. And don't use the gun! My sister got her industrial (top of the ear) done with a gun and it completely shattered her cartilage. She got it when she was like 16, she's 23 now and she still can't sleep on the side that it's pierced, it hurts if it gets bumped etc. do not let them pierce it with a gun!
As for pain, I don't have it done but remember everybody's pain tolerance is different, so what's a 3 on one person could be a 9 on another. :)

I have that and it was about a 3 on the pain scale but it hurt a lot like the first night and a couple nights after but thats really it and just make sure to use anti bacterial non fragrance soap to clean it (dial soap) I have the industrial piercing also and that was PAINFUL lol so this to me was not bad at all don't worry(:
