Swatch Comparison: UD Electric Palette vs. Sleek Ultra Mattes!

Hey ladies, I thought some of you might like this swatch comparison! There are only a few shades that are similar to one another, so a few shadows (from each palette) do not have a counterpart in the other. I though you would all like to see these (sloppy) swatches anyways. The Urban Decay Pressed Pigments are in the center (boxed off) and the siilar Sleek shades are sloppily swatched above and below the UD Pigments. Some of the Sleek swatches are done twice because I accidentally made them muddy while building them up or I wanted to see them next to another UD pigment. I did NOT use a primer or base fro these, just my bare skin and the shadows &pigments. Some are almost identical while others are a stretch, but I think the palettes are quite comparable!

The Verdict!

Best pigmentation: Urban Decay. While Sleek can be built up easily, UD's pigments are more pigmented in a single initial swipe so you don't have to worry about building up the color and wasting more product.

Best Price: Sleek. I paid $11.50 including overseas shipping (UK to US). Electric Palette retails for $49, but I purchased mine for $42.

Nicest Feeling/Texture: Urban Decay. The Sleek shadows are quite creamy and soft, but I find these UD pigments to be even more buttery and smooth than their eye shadows. Its really quite nice!

Best Packagine: Urban Decay. Sleek's Palettes are all solid black, which is nice... but with such bright colors, the UD packaging makes it more fun. I also like how large the pans are inside the UD casing and how far apart they are from one another. The Sleek pans are so close to one another, that (more than once) I put my finger in the wrong shadow while swatching and created a bit of a muddy mess =/ Plus, I find Sleek palettes kind of difficult to open.

Best Brush Included: Urban Decay! This may not matter to a lot of you, but both palettes come with brushes. Sleek's Ultra Mattes V1 Palette came with a long handled double-ended sponge applicator... I probably will never use this, though it was a nice thought. Urban Decay's came with a lovely double-ended actual makeup brush. I love the brushes that UD includes in their palettes, so this was a bonus.

Overall: I would personally probably choose Sleek if I was only going to purchase one... because I rarely wear bright eyeshadow. I may never get use out of either of these palettes in reality. But Urban Decay's Electric Palette was nicer to work with. If you often wear bright colors, I would recommend Urban Decay;s Electric Pressed Pigment Palette, but if you're like me and rarely/never wear bright shadows, the Sleek Ultra Mattes V1 Palette is definitely a delight to work with.

This is what the palettes actually look like next to one another. The Sleek is the smaller palette with 12 shadows sitting inside of the larger UD palette with 10 pressed pigments.

What an awesome post Natalie :) I really enjoyed reading this! it's so informative!
You almost made me wanna buy one of the palettes, but I, like you, never really wear bright shadows ;)

Thanks Sabrina! I'm glad it was informative! I am struggling so hard, trying to decide whether to keep the UD palette or not =( It was such a joy to play with, but I just don't know if I'll really get my money's worth. Plus I have the Sleek palette if I actually do want to wear a bright look. But the UD is just soooooo lovely. Decisions, decisions!

I also just mixed osme of the Sleek colors and besides the silver glittery color and the deep purple, I can mix colors to get almost exact dupes of the ones that aren't already dupes on their own.

You're welcome Megan! =)

Here's another shot of the swatches, with some mixed colors to make closer dupes from the Sleek palette! Except for silver and purple, you can mix colors to get them pretty close if they aren't already similar enough =)

I understand your dilemma :) Personally I would "settle" with the Sleek palette because I know I wouldn't get to use the UD as much as I would want to for that price and because the Sleek palette would be fine for the rear times that I would wanna use a bright color... Well I'm also a bit cheap I guess haha so I think it's a lot of money for UD ;)
