Is putting some externally on your skin the same as taking it internally? (Biotin)

I have recently just dried Mario Bedescu's buffering lotion for cystic acne. I have read the ingredients and have realized that biotin is the last ingredient! I do not want to take biotin because I did take hair skin and nail pills which left me with so many more problems... And weakened my immune system! I was wondering if applying this biotin as a spot treatment to cysts I get during that time of the month has the same affect as taking the pills internally which I use to do. Please help!

Applying a product on your skin is not the same as taking it internally. I attended a skin seminar at my mum's hospital (she is a doctor.) The dermat who was speaking gave a clear distinction between the two methods of administration. When you apply something to your skin, the uppermost layer of the skin or epidermis absorbs it, topical treatments are designed to be within a specific safe range which is wayyy below the Biotin pills for the body. Also, something taken internally is absorbed by the bloodstream and so, It would have an enhanced effect. Although, if you have reacted badly to Biotin before, your best bet is to see a doctor about this Buffering lotion.

I know for most supplements (like zinc, vitamins a, d, c etc) the skin breaks it down differently than actually consuming them. I feel since biotin has a lot of these components and more the skin would break it down differently. But hold on a second, I'll look some things up and get back to you with a definite answer :)

OK so from what I gather, the only people on the internet who crushed up biotin were the ones who were using it for hair loss and they added it to their shampoo.

I also found some medical research and doctors found that biotin gets absorbed into a healthy body without the side effects of taking it orally.

Here's my conclusion: Biotin is mainly vitamin B7, all B vitamins are water soluble. After looking up some biotin creams I'm sure you can crush up a pill and dump it into your favorite moisturizer. But that's a waste of a perfectly good moisturizer if it doesn't work for you sooooo I'd crush up a pill, put it into its own container and then every night I'd add just a sprinkle to the lotion I'm about to apply on my face. This way you can test it out and see if it does work (and then tell me about it! I'm curious!)

NOTE**** I have never tried this and don't know if its safe. These were just suggestions. Many woman used crushed biotin to regrow hair, so I'm not sure if this will make your facial hair grow back faster and more frequently

And Anupa the biotin is in the buffering lotion from Mario bedescu, it is the last ingredient that is labeled but it is not a lotion so to speak lol it is actually really liquidy

The buffering lotion is kind of like a spot treatment or can be used every other night.

Oh!! OK nope I guess I misread your question haha I thought you wanted to add biotin :? The lotion should be used as directed! the levels of biotin in that are most likely lab tested and is safe for your skin :) since its the last ingredient, it also means its in a small quantity :)

No. Products applied on your skin break down differently according to chemical
Composition. The odds of a minimal amount of Biotin actually effecting you is very small. The amount that your skin will absorb the most is into the blood stream is very minimal if anything. ( 0.2 % )
Anyways, you obtain Biotin naturally through common foods everyday. Those pills you took are specifically made for those with a Biotin deficiency or a related illness. Your body obtains biotin through foods already.
