So I have dry skin that is acne prone and I do also have acne scars that need covering but I can't build up my foundation because just a small amount starts to look flakey. I'm working on finding a good moisturizer and just ordered the Laura Mercier hydrating primer so I hope those help but I'm wondering if a foundation change will make a difference as well?

Awesome I will have to check those out. I'm finding it so frustrating that even when I exfoliate and moisturize the crap out of my skin before make up AND use a primer I still get streaky, flakey, splotchy coverage. right now I use a tinted moisturizer from ELF and the Covergirl CC foundation base after my primer and I alternate between Revlon color stay and Almay clear complexion foundations.

My skin always looks fine until I get to the foundation

I have super dry skin and I love benefits oxygen wow liquid Foundation. It's light and not drying. it's also not greasey or shiny.

The benefit hello flawless wow foundation would be good for dry skin. I tried it and didn't like it just because it felt like I could never get the foundation to set since it is a dewy foundation, and the tones were too orangey for me so I quit using it but I think for dry skin you would really want to check that out because it is pretty good.

Clinique Even Better (love this and their prices), Makeup Forever HD, Tarte, and Laura Mercier Silk Creme. And for drugstore, Loreal True Match Lumi (didn't work me but a lot other dry skin girls have good results) and Boots No. 7 Perfect Foundation. Also try switching up cleansers. I switched to CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser from Cetaphil and it really made a huge difference; I also use the CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion.

Primers help tremendously too. Right now I've been using L'Oreal (very dewy and illuminated, but I love that look) Lumi (skinny white bottle).

I have heard super awesome things from Jacqueline H. and others here about the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation. I believe it is full coverage, very blendable, and a satin/dewy finish. I use the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer now and I find it works well on my dry skin. I cannot wait to pair it with the actual foundation! Definitely try a sample from Sephora if you can!

Totally Cover FX! I 3rd or 4th it but am too lazy to count how many other people recommended it lol. Sounds like you also need an incredibly moisturizer night creme - think heavy. Something along the lines of Elizabeth Arden's 8 hour creme, or a solid overnight moisturizer for mature skin, regardless of your age, as they tend to help the skin become supple. The foundation itself is not the issue as much as ensuring that your skin is always well moisturized!
