My dermatologist told me to only use moisturizer in the morning and a normal cleanser at night (I use simple) and then I use differin.

You can use steam on your face, but I don't think it necessarily gets rid of your acne. I was told it does get rid of acne, but seriously it doesn't. It just opens your pores, in my opinion so the product can be absorb faster. To get rid of acne, try honey! For a home remedy. I have an acne related account on instagram, so feel free to check out my account for more info and tips. @myaccutaneexperience

Acne is usually caused by an internal imbalance of some sort, what kinds of products do you use? They could be too harsh and worsen the problem, are you toning your skin? Moisturizing? Steam will help to open your pores, and bring debris in your pores to the surface and soften it so it is easier to do extractions. Adding 2-3 drops of tea tree oil to the steam has an anti bacterial property and can help dry the spots up. Anti biotics for acne are only a temporary fix , they problem worsens one you stop using it , I have used both topical and oral. Laser acne facials are a great option if you are able to invest the money in them! Glycolic acid facials are another great option for regenerating the skin, and drying out the acne! Persistence and patience are key when dealing with acne prone skin, I'm an aesthetician feel free to message me with questions :)

I'd recommend just going to a dermatologist from the start. I fooled around with all kinds of stuff trying to get rid of my acne. Mine is genetic so it usually never mattered what I did to it. I could not wear makeup for weeks, buy the best cleansers and best skincare, try more natural methods like tea tree or coconut oil, change my diet and cut out certain foods, etc. I did everything but see a dermatologist for close to 10 years of my life. The acne kicked in when I was 12 and I've struggled with it until now. I just turned 22 and back in January finally bit the bullet and went to a derm. I'm kicking myself for being too stubborn to have done it before. The difference is night and day. I feel like I got lucky and got treatment that works for me right off the bat, it may take some time but I guarantee you will probably spend less time and money if you just go right to a professional and let them assist you. Acne is a really complex ailment that isn't really even fully understood. I honestly feel like a professional is the only way to go if that option is available to you.

On a thread a few weeks ago I said that coconut oil was working on my acne prone skin but it broke me out a few days after :( so I'd suggest staying away from coconut oil until your acne has cleared up. Try to keep your routine simple. Always cleanse your face thoroughly, I use only oatmeal as that's great for inflammation. Then use a toner preferably with witch hazel in it. Thayers do a great one with tidewater. Then moisturise well. I use a mixture of rosehip oil, jojoba oil and avocado oil. Streaming helps too, make sure you exfoliate after to remove all the dead skin cells then moisturise. Also try and maintain a healthy diet and drink plenty of water. Hope that helps :)

I have acne probs too. I use Clean&Clear advantage oil absorbing cream cleanser in morning and at night. In morning I moisturize afterwards (a lightweight one) and at night I use a cream my doctor gave me. My skin used to be soo bad, but it still isn't clear. So frustrating, I feel you. Best of luck tho!! 😘

Agreed! Due to the lauric, caprylic and capric acid found in coconut oil, it makes an excellent cream to help diminish acne scars. Coconut oil also helps to prevent new acne scars from forming. http://antiskinproblems.com/wonders-of-coconut-oil-for-acne/
