Foils in my opinion never give you a natural look because they are strategically placed if you want a natural look you need to do the balyage highlight method it's the best and most natural looking type of highlight.

I don't know your natural color or what color you hope to achieve and so I could not say for certain if foils will give you the look you desire. If you are going dark blonde to light blonde, for example, to look natural you would need a sizeable amount of foils...including some on the underside. Then, a great toner. I'd pick up some purple shampoo as well if you are blonde.
A talented pro will know how much lift you can use and stay natural. For example, if you have brown hair, you want to avoid streaks and so technique and experience/talent are going to come into play here. If too much lift is used, you'll have streaks...and you don't want to run orange. You may want to lift the entire head slightly in color and then foil gradually...that's what I did. I didn't just get foils...I lifted the entire color first and went into it gradually. (I also don't foil every visit aside from the color blocking) There will be some breakage and drying so a heads up to invest in a deep conditioner and a leave in one as well.
I'd do my Yelp and FourSquare recon to be sure you're visiting a reputable, established and respected salon and stylist. Not everyone is great with foils.

It really depends on the experience and talent of your hair stylist. I get foils and I am my own worst critic; however, mine look pretty natural.
