Is mascara considered a liquid? I'm not checking a bag and wondering what to bring for makeup.

Look on the container if it says fl. oz. then yes it is.

When I flew a couple months ago, I had all my liquids in a little travel makeup bag (in my carry on) and I didn't have to take it out. As long as the machine doesn't go off when the bag goes through.

Oh wait, if you're checking a bag and it's not being a carry on, you don't have to worry about any size of your liquids :)

Thanks ladies! It's is under 3 ounces, but I'm wondering if I should put it in my makeup bag or in my plastic bag that will contain all of my other liquids

It depends on the airport honestly some airports are more strict that others - some want the clear plastic bag or they will take everything out of your bag and put it in one of their bags - so better to put anything that says "fl. oz." short for fluid ounces in the clear plastic bag.

Anything that is liquid or gel goes into a single quart size plastic bag, including mascara, lip gloss, gel products (eyeliner, eye/face primer), lotion, setting spray, hair spray, etc.

If anything is left outside of the clear bag, they tell you to put it in your checked bag or they throw it away. A quart is not very large, so pack smart.

I've flown through many airports around the US & have never gotten stopped for having that in my carry on (& not in my clear plastic liquid only items bag). You should be fine. & unlined it's a $35 Dior mascara, I wouldn't stress if they confiscated it. TSA has bigger things to worry about.

Interesting, at Sacramento Int'l they made a big deal over my mom's lip gloss being in her purse and made her try and stick it in her bag. When it wouldn't fit, they threw it away. I saw a similar situation in Las Vegas with someone's hand lotion. I guess each airport is different. It's easiest to just comply with TSA standards from the get-go and avoid any hassles; air travel is stressful enough as it is.

I agree with Emily they have every right to throw your cosmetics away if you did not comply with TSA regulations so unless you want to say good bye to it just follow the rules.
