Well for one - make sure you don't bite them! If it's hard for you to not bite them, you can buy a fingernail polish made for nail biters.. It tastes bad so that you won't want to bite them anymore. If you want to help them grow, drink lots of milk because it strengthens nails and helps them grow. You can also let your nails sit in warm milk or warm olive oil for about 10 minutes and it helps. And if you want then to be stronger I've heard that Sally Hansen makes a nail polish thing that makes them harder or whatever. Hope this helps.

So...as weird as it is, what worked for me was to just be super aware of my nails. To tell everyone around me to stop me if I brought my hands anywhere near my mouth, and if I noticed myself biting or chewing on them I'd be like "no, self, that's really bad and your nails look like crap."

Apparently if you get Sally Hansen nail growth and chop garlic up finely and mix into the bottle it helps.

Also a way to stop biting your nails is to find a nailpolish that also tastes disgusting when its dry, or maybe soak your hands in somethin that'll stay and taste disgusting!

Kendra! I've recently just broken my nail biting habit, it's been about a month and my nails are growing out nicely! What I do to stop is find a nail polish you really like (colour wise) and I purchased Sally Hansen nail growth polish to help my nails along a little bit so I'd notice a difference a little quicker and it does work, a weeks worth of usage applying it twice a day worked for me. But paint your nails your favourite colour and What I would do whenever I got the urge to bite them is just look at them and remind yourself you've gone this far, just to keep going. If you've already gone a week without biting then I think this would really work for you too :) I hope that all makes sense in a way lol, if not just ask if I didn't clarify anything enough.

That's what I've started doing and it's worked this week: my hope is that they start growing so I can like see the progress that my bit biting has caused.. If that make sense? Otherwise I might start biting them again! Not good! Lol

A few people have told me that acrylics can really damage your real nails though... Is that true? Even if they make me stop biting I wouldn't want to do anything that would cause damage to the nails... I'm not very knowledgeable in all of this

Hahah same Salma! I'll be doing good for like a week and they'll actually be long! Then slowly I'll start biting them... And one will be left all long all lonely so I end up biting it D: so annoying lol. Habits are the stupidest thing ever.

Kendra, don't get axrylics to try and stop biting, it works because you obviously can't bite them but when you take them off, your nails will be so weak and brittle, it really isn't worth it. In the month you won't have acrylics, apposed to the month with acrylics, your nails would've grown twice as much and be healthy. Acrylics were false hope for me lol.

I stop biting my nails months ago but am still only on the two months mark of don't mess with the skin around the nail. A bad tasting Polish May help, the sally hansen hard as nails polish is amazing as well since my nails were brittle. I found after all the chewed on nail grew out and was cut of completely it made all my nails so much harder. Another tip is to cut them short when they are growing out so you have no nail to bite on. Even though I found that hard to do since I had never seen my nails long and couldn't wait. My last tip is to carry around a hand cream along with tell someone. Either you can tell everyone and tell them to tell you when you are doing it and to stop. Or what worked for me was to tell one person then show them your nails once a week. It made me want to please them that I had progress. Sorry I just made the longest answer ever.

I agree with the Sally Hansen products, my nails tend to chip/flake so I end up chewing them. Recently I've found that doing a French Tip type of manicure helped discourage me cuz of you bite em, all your polish is gone! I also keep a nail file handy so instead of chewing them I can shape them (even if they are super short, I just round the edges.) Also, if it is a nervous habit, find something else to fidget with. I make hemp bracelets so I just carry one around to work on when I'm feeling anxious. I'm not sure of Sally Hansen produces this but there are clear coats with Biotin and Green Tea that I believe to work. Good luck! c:

I used to bite mine too and how I actually stopped was by getting into nail art. Once you put all that effort into your nails you won't want to ruin them. Since yours are so small.you can try some glitter polish and rhinestones to start and as they get longer you can do designs like Gabriella's. The compliments on your designs and your longer nails will be the last push towards leaving your bad habit!
