Awww thank you Em!! Most recently I've been big on peptide-packed moisturizers and serums. Staying on top of exfoliating is very important for me because as one ages the rate of cell turnover begins to slow down. Retinol cream is also in my rotation (used three nights a week) it keeps those pesky fine lines at bay. Besides skincare I'm BIG on watching what I eat. Heavy sugar consumption is just death for the skin. If I partake too much of it it shows in my skin...loss of clarity and smoothness. It breaks down the wall of collagen that is stored within the skin. Along with restricting sugar... cow dairy, white rice, white flour...I don't touch at all. Once I cut that out I noticed my skin stopped breaking out. But to control the hormonal acne I rely on flaxseed pills which contains Omega 3's. I couldnt take the fish tabs and Traci suggested flaxseed. Now I have incorporated milled flaxseed into my steel cut oatmeal I'm the morning along with a occassional teaspoon in my green smoothies. Speaking of veggies...I consume a lot of fresh veggies. So much so that the employees at Whole Foods produce dept know me by first name. I have veggies with every single meal. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. When it comes to meat...red meat is out but fish (Tilapia and Salmon) is consumed and I just started getting into Bison and venison is a year round thing for me as I go hunting for it once a year. I like meat to not be treated with hormones and graze what is found naturally versus being fed corn on a assembly line.

All this goodness I do have my weaknesses. Chocolate, Merlot and craft beer. So I just allow myself a day to cheat so to speak. I don't go buck wild and eat junk from sun up to sun down. But I might have myself a piece of chocolate and a glass of wine that will take me a few hours to finish because I sip real slow.lol. And then afterwards I guzzle two mugs of hot green tea without sweetner.

A few products worth checking out:
*RoC retinol correxion deep wrinkle cream
*M-61 Hydroboost Cream
*AmorePacific Treatment Enzyme Peel
*M-61 Power Glow Peel (for a deeper exfoliating home treatment)
*SkinCeuticals for an antioxidant serum (they have several to choose from based on skintype)
*I cannot stress enough the use of SPF. Daily. Year-round. You can buy all the products in the world but if you don't have this basic item in your rotation you're just wasting good money. SPF protects and advances positive results for your skin. I hope I was of some help.xxx

Sorry I bumped here but Shelley, you are similar in nutrition just like how I am, whole wheat bread, lots of fruits and all!! So you're a pretty cool smart@$$ Which is what I'm trying to say. :) love that you've taken to educate yourself on this type of topic and it's great others can reach for your help. Have a healthy life!
And Em, I'm pretty sure the sun plays a good role in this and I recommend a strong SPF 15 or higher during the summer. I'm working off a full body sunburn right now and it's starting to turn brown so, thought I drop that in there.

Omg I'm going to keep these tips in mind for when I start to see wrinkles I'm only 26 but I have a few around my eyes but that it at the moment... Thanks Shelley!

Diana if you start now you will slow down the progression of wrinkles, in regards to skincare that is.
Em...the retinol I use only at night and they do have a sensitive skin formula. When first starting out its best to use once a week and slowly increase usage. As far as sun sensitivity...not an issue as long as you wear some spf so any positive gains aren't lost. If not any scars you're trying to fade will merely get darker. I love orange roughy!! I bake it in parchment paper and top it off with bell peppers and onions. Yummy!
Thank you Martina. ;) I want to be that hip in-shape 65 year old so I have to make sure the exterior is aligned with the interior. I can't be falling apart.lol

Lol I have got to start using SPF daily though. Gotta use it in the winter as well or not as much than? That's one question I have for youuu. I don't have any wrinkles, thank god, but I really don't want to be a wrinkled old shirt in my 30s and up either. Never too late to start, right? I mean, 13's a reasonable age, I am turning 14 in August :3.

Well to be frank, I don't have any acne problems so there really is nothing for me to do. It gets boring so I do go around ing helping my friends with these beauty questions. Also, sun does help acne, it decreases blemish which is what it did for me when I was 12, and it's cleared up now. But it never occurred to me that I should wear sunscreen at those times, you know? I just wanted to know.

It seems this thread is getting draggy so I'm going to stop here right now so new threads can emerge. Sorry for butting in, couldn't help it but that's what bl is for.

I don't know how the sun helps acne when UV radiation causes DNA mutations and skin burns - there are multiple causes to acne including internal hormones, clogged pores, as well as health and eating habits - none of which can be "cured" by the sun... In any case - I agree with me and Shelley - no matter your age you should wear sunscreen every day that you are exposed to the outdoors - cloudy days doesn't mean the sun is not shining so SPF every day is definitely a must.

Yeah girl I think diet and exercise play a big role in how our body ages as well as how it's able to heal itself to remain healthy - if you have that then I think you are set for a long and healthy life :)

Shelley W.

@Alia...I'm 40 years old.

Shelley W.

@Em...good question!! I'm not for certain but I'm thinking that my retinol assist in building collagen. I dropped an email to my husband asking him that question. Might be awhile before he gets back to me.
@Martina...no need to worry about anti-aging prevention for ya right now. Just keep your program simple, especially since you mentioned not having any acne issues. Just a gentle cleanser, a daytime moisturizing spf and a spf free nighttime moisturizer, alcohol free toner and maybe a tube of acne spot treatment just in case. Biggest thing...maintaining a balance diet.

Thanks Shelley! I read your comment and you have 2 of the things that I don't use which probably would be ideal if I did. Thanks for letting me know. There's a really great beauty supply store around my area and the lady who works there is real nice, she could helping me searching for those items I don't use in my routine. I use /these/ products that my mom orders. Everything else in stores only gives my face a scent, it never does much which is why my choices are limited in that department.

I only use the soap bar for my body but the pump is just for my face in the morning and night after that I apply the aloe cleanser, it's like a cream that I massage into my skin. I've used this aloe activator here in the bottom pic but I've no clue what it's for.
