Hi gorgeousnesses!!
Not sure whether to post this on skin care or hair, so I will give it a try here.
I'm looking to go for laser to get rid of my "extra" hair once and for all.
My questions are:
Does laser really work at getting rid of hair for ever?
What's the difference between IPL and laser?
Some years ago I went to something that was supposed to be laser depilation, I really don't know anymore because it took me 10 sessions to finish the treatment and the hair came back. Not all of it but, let's say that if I went to the beach without shaving, I'd be scaring a lot of children.
They obviously charged me for something they didn't do. Is it possible that laser doesn't work on some people? Is there a way that I can actually tell if I'm getting lasered instead of fooled?

I think that IPL uses a different technology (light) than laser and I'm not certain that IPL is the the best choice anymore for laser hair removal. I could be wr.

Whoops I mean I could be wrong. I'm having laser hair removal for my bikini and it seems to really have worked. Just go to a place that uses the most up to date technology for lasers. Realself.com also has a lot of info on these types of treatments. I know IPL is used for photofacials, but I haven't heard of it being used for hair removal recently. I've had like 5 treatments with the Gentlemax Pro laser and after like the 2nd treatment most hair was gone and I don't need to shave.

Ipl or intense pulse light can be used for hair removal as well as skin rejuvenation. however ipl does not penetrate as deep as a laser so you need a lot more treatments ,lasers have cooling treatments,Ipl only a cooling gel that wears off faster, Ipl burns all the surrounding skin ,laser can just hit the hair shaft , and Ipl is not safe for deeper skin tones

Wow! I didn't know any of that. I live in Germany, so I will have to find the right laser "name" to go for it. I saw some places offer an "Alexandritlaser" nope don't know whether it is any good, but people seem excited about it. The price however is even scarier than the potential pain.
It hurt a lot when they give me the "whatever they gave me" so I'll have to be brave.
@Maggie, in a scale from 1 to I-want-to-die (10) how bad does it hurt?

@Traci, it totally makes sense and I believe what they have me may have been IPL cause they did mention that it would not be bad for me since I have very fair skin.

Well not even all lasers can't be used on dark skin either they have specific lasers now that work on dark skin if you have to go back ,6 to 10 times it's probably IPl ,they usually use a Alexandrite or a Yag lAser which works on deeper skin tones just ask to be sure hun and it does feel like a rubber band being snapped on your skin to me.

Its going to take commitment on your part, every 4 to 6 weeks, sometime upwards 10 to 12 treatments. Hair has to be in active growth to kill follicle. There are some gimmicks out there, but ipl is what it is. And it won't work on fine vellus hair.

Yyyyikes! The rubber feeling! My friend, who has very dark skin did mention that.
She experienced discoloration of the hair as well. However, lucky her, her hair did not come back as much as mine.
I'm going to get the treatment.
I'm tired of shaving.
I do still have a question.
Is it a good idea (muffin-wise) to take all the hair off?
Someone told me that it was not recommendable.

Lol yes you can get a full Brazilian laser treatment or how ever you want it shaped.but there is a risk of irritation or infection by removing all the hair ,
