We all know better than to share our makeup w/ friends, but why is that idea lost on so many girls when they go into sephora? Earlier while browsing, I saw several girls sampling the testers directly onto their water lines or lips. Gross! Honey, you don't know how many lips that applicator has touched! Makeup (even our own stash) is a breeding ground for bacteria. Please, if you sample, do so on the back of your hand or spray some alcohol on the product before application.

I swatch only on my inner arm and I keep alcohol wipes in my car ( I like seeing stuff in natural light). I don't dare put any of it on my face and I don't allow any of the Sephora employees to put product on my face. I just buy whatever I'm interested in and whatever doesn't work goes back.

Oh wait...how about folks who sample stuff in the drugstore!? Open up sealed products and slap on the face. That irks me to no end!! Then they put it right back on the shelf and walk away!!

I totally agree that this sort of testing is gross - but I'd just like to say how amazingly lucky you guys are to be able to return products once they're open! Can't do that in Australia.

Yea some people don't care about germs I guess I can't do it I don't even use the tester I look at it and bye it if I like how it looks or I just return it.

I've seen people do that Shelley, especially w/ foundations & lipsticks directly on their face & lips. I'll only purchase drugstore items w/ plastic seals on them that aren't tampered. It's so disgusting & disrespectful to the store & fellow shoppers!

I sample it on my arm, and usually wipe it off after with Alcohol.
I've seen women apply the product on their faces on numerous occasions, it is very disgusting and unsanitary.

I don't mind a MUA applying some to my face to color match because lord knows that I can't do it to save my life! But everything else I swatch on my hand/wrist. I wish drugstores would have testers available.

I have to admit I have put lip colors on my fingers and tried them on my lips X| but I usually wipe it off with an alcohol wipe in the store.. I'm not so opposed to germs and bacteria as everyone else because I know that germs are everywhere inside our bodies and outside - and if the bacteria are working properly they will kill any newcomers so it's not a big deal to me - all the beauties who constantly "disinfect" their products are really just breeding stronger bacterium because no matter how much you clean something you can't kill all of the bacteria and that 0.01 % that was left behind from 99.9% clean products will only multiply and grow to over twice the original amount in a matter of minutes - also I think being too clean just leads to lower immunity and increasing the chance to get sick - so that's my personal take on it :T.

@Diana...that is definitely true...what you're saying about being a hardcore germaphobe but we still don't have a cure for herpes and there are carriers running around that don't even know they have it and if your immuned system is compromised then that individual is bound to become ill. Mono ( aka the "kissing disease) is often spread thru salvia. I don't know how long it can survive outside the body when it comes to cosmetics but I'd rather play safe than sorry. E Coli is another bit of nastiness spread thru makeup...

Yea I agree with Shelley I'm not a fanatic with germs but I practice standard precautions on my self and my clients there are certain pathogens that simply using alcohol on does not kill it needs to be disinfected ,or sterilized to remove the microbes so I'm definitely not going to take the chance ,you can give yourself a infection from your own makeup that no none else has even uses if staph ,strep or bacteria has gotten in it so no thank you I rather be safe, but to each his or her own

I know I know not everyone shares my personal view point - viruses on the other hand cannot survive outside of a living host so there is no need to worry about herpes - but other bacteria definitely can survive on inanimate objects so you definitely can get a bacterial infection if you are trying on samples a lot - but a small amount of bacteria I think is fine and your own antibodies should be able to handle it - I have not gotten sick from makeup yet - so hopefully I won't :P but yes it's always better to be safe than sorry.
