Try washing your hair with dandruff shampoo it's extremely deadly on coloured hair but would serve to fade you black a bit, then bleach it! That's all there is to it really. If you really do wanna do it at home watch a lot of tutorials and buy professional grade suppkies.

You would need to go to a salon but to be honest it's a process

You need to bleach it but PLEASE go to a salon and do t do it yourself. It is; like Karen said, a process. It could take several appointments. The problem with doing it as home is that you could really damage your hair or if you don't do it right the color could come out really bad or even fry your hair to the point of it falling out (happened to a friend of mine)
If you really want to do it yourself; strip the color and then bleach it with a professional grade kit. Don't just go with drugstore brand or quality.
