Technically this is a gradient eye, not a smokey eye. a smokey eye is darkest at the lash line & slowly fades it's way up to the crease. either way tho it looks really nice & the blending is awesome (: great job!

This doll is not a smokey eye, it is very pretty but incorrectly labeled.

A smokey eye usually consists of three shadows; black, dark brown, and a tan shade of some sort (I usually use an apricot shadow.) Now Miss Jacqueline says the success of a smokey eye is dependent on the liner application and the blending. And boy is she correct, fr poo am personal experience I can tell you that underblended smokeys just don't look good.

So first you are going to want to prep and prime your eyes like you normally do but the next step is very important as well. Your going to apply liner now. No, not a wing or anything like that. Your application needs to be sort of messy and deconstructed looking. Do this by applying the black liner or eye pencil along the bottom 1/3 or half of your lid. Then using the tool of your choice blend it out and up until there are no harsh lines or edges... Now you can start applying your shadows. Black at the bottom, then brown, then tan. You. can slightly overlap the colors if you want. Now impeccable blending is crucial. I like to hold my brush above my eye and at a downward angle when blending so it doesn't create any lines but rather gets a nice gradual look. Your blending needs to be so smooth that you can't tell where one color stops and the next starts. It really takes practice. Anyway then you'll finish off with mascara and lashes if you want. Anyway, I would ask Mrs. Jackie or Alma, they the pros. lol. Hope this helped though.

Oh you also want to smoke out the bottom lashline using your dark brown shadow.

Thanks for your comments but I don't believe a Smokey eye has to be only dark colours and a certain amount, smoke is a dark colour rising, and thats what I portray in this so yeah, but everyone has their own opinion so its all good! I love reading all the comments!

I have to respectfully disagree Ruth... You have not created a smokey eye, and it is incorrect to label your look as one. You can call it a smokey gradient eye, but your are false in calling it a smokey eye. Not an opinion, rather a fact... Don't get me wrong your look is very pretty, you just mislabeled it, which is sadly very common.

Also, regardless, you want to make sure you list products or techniques used so it adds valuable content to the thread, and so the mods won't delete it. :)
