I really want my cartilage pierced but I have heard so many awful things I'm not sure anymore. Anyone have experience, advice?

Get it done with a needle not gun. Gun cause trams to the ear.

I love my cartilage , I have my industrial done. everyone reacts differently. I got mine over a month ago and I still have this nasty cartilage bump. it's barley going away now. just take care of it (:

Where I circled is where the bump was on my industrial. I also have my tragus pierced and for the first few months I had a nasty little ball. that was 4 years ago and it's totally normal.

I have my tragus and helix pierced, as long as it's pierced with a needle from a reputable piercing place you shouldn't have any problems. Clean it twice daily with the solution they'll give you to clean it with or make a salt saline solution. Don't fiddle with them and that's about it, at first it hurts to sleep on whichever side you get your piercing so think of that before you get it haha :)

I just made a post very similar to this one as well so I'll follow this thread.

Firstly, a piercing gun can't be autoclaved (sterilization device) if its put in an autoclave it will melt. So the only actually sterile part of the gun is the stud itself. Now the stud itself. The gun can only hold a butterfly-back stud and those kinds of studs are very difficult to clean properly thus leading to infection. The size of the piercing in the gun is also smaller then the needle and the smaller the piercing the harder/longer it takes to heal. Lastly, with a gun the back of the stud is what creates the hole which compared to a needle is very dull, making the gun method much more painful. Hope this helps :)

I had 3 helix's done with a gun (I didn't know about gun vs needles at the times) and they all got infected and I had to let them close because they were just too painful. Turns out I'm allergic to nickel but I still would recommend not getting it done with a gun. I now have really massive bumps of scar tissue where they were.
Piercers know about piercings and are professional who have trained, people with guns are just store workers who could've only been there a day and even if they aren't they're just given a gun, they have no idea about ears.

I had a cartilage and I loved it but me and my stupidity didn't do research before hand so I got it pierced with a gun and it shattered my cartilage. I had to take it out because it wouldn't heal. As long as you get it done with a needle and clean it well, you will be fine :) my next cartilage piercing will be done at a tattoo/piercing parlor where they use a needle.

Make sure YOU CLEAN IT AT LEAST TWICE A DAY EVERYDAY. I got an ear piercing, and for about 3 months I was supposed to clean it twice a day everyday. After about 1.5 months, I stopped because I got lazy. when it was time to take the earing out, I kind of had to yank it out and I pulled some of my skin of and the earing was really gross and dirty. A couple of weeks later the hole closed so I lost my money. so be sure to clean!!

^ I wouldn't do it more than 2 times, max 3. You don't want to over do it and not give it a chance to repair itself. Don't touch or twist it unless your cleaning it as well. I can try and find my piercing aftercare page in the next few days and post it on your wall if you want
