A Question About Highlighting.

To be honest, I do not use this method, but from what I understood about it, the ones who do it claims that that area is where the sun naturally shines so it helps to achieve a natural glow to your face as though the sun was shining towards it. I've also heard that it helps with the blending so it's not just completely under the dark eye circles and looks funny. I'm not sure if this is the correct effect or definition they are trying to achieve, but that's what I understood from it ha.
Now as for drawing it all the way to the corner of the mouth, I haven't heard of that one yet haha.

I believe it's the infamous kim k highlight ,works on her but I think it needs to be done right.

I think it looks good if the concealer isn't to light for you.

I *thought the corner of the mouth thing was more along the laugh line? (Which the attempt to mask is always sort of dumb IMO, how awful if people should know you've spent your life laughing a bunch! I do realize some can be quite severe or people are self conscious but lines of joy are a sign of a life well lived) Anyway that's what I've seen, and the inverted triangle I assume is just like the old technique of using concealer like 3 shades lighter than your skin? Brian Williams' makeup artist, I'm talking to you!! Stop that bs right now. ;)

I have no cute why ppl highlight & contour the way they do. I'm no makeup master by any means but from what I understand highlighting is to make the highest point stand out or pop and contouring pulls areas in. I've watched countless videos and pictorial tutorials and I'm still confused with the whole process.

I saw a Wayne Goss video about this yesterday... He also explained that if you were to do this you should use a concealer that was no more the one shade lighter then your foundation :) Haha well I don't know much about highlighting, I have actually always done it, but never knew it had a name before recently!

I just use a tiny amount of highlighter on the very top of my cheekbones (if that makes sense) and the I use a little highlighter on my top lip to make it appear fuller! I have no idea if what I do is right or anything but it works on my face :)

I do exactly what Sabrina does, I put it across my cheeks bones and on my Cupid's bow. I'll sometimes put it on the bridge of my nose also. To my basic understanding, you highlight what you want to bring forwards and you contour what you want to recede? So if I wanted to make my cheekbones more prominent, I'd highlight them, right? I'm not sure where exactly the triangles under cheek method originated but my guess is it gained popularity because of Kim K. I personally don't think it looks bad, I've just never done it before. By highlighting the center part of your face and contouring the sides, wouldn't it make the face narrower looking? And help to add dimension in things like photography?

Jacqueline I'm really interested in hearing how you feel about highlighting? Do you highlight yourself and if you do where do you do it?

I tried some contouring using Wayne Goss's video today and I think it came out okay - but here was his screen shot of how he applied it - I'm personally not sure why he brought it down that far from his eyes but I personally tried to not go past the top of my cheeks I can post a photo of how my attempt turned out n maybe you can give me some tips miss Jacqueline!

I've seen my daughter highlight/contour every client differently based off bone structure of the face. She follows a less is more approach when it comes to that process.

Traci said it, it's that Kim K. *scowl
I can't even assess her makeup because I look at her and think she's such a vacuous waste, and the epitome of talentless fame, and it...well, you get my point.

Interesting thread jackie... I hope you can help me or anyone can help me understand this, ok so this picture that diana posted, why is a contour line being dragged across the nose? I don't get it... The dark shades are supposed to make things pulled back and light bring forward wouldnt this make his nose look like the street rodes where they say warning dip? Lol like its all straight and then you have a hole and then it rises again? Idk can you ladies help me? Lol.

Is that for if you have a bump jackie? I don't see or feel a bump on my nose just the tip where it starts curving, and thanks for clearing it up for me I saw it as strange but I'm no expert so I wouldnt know nothing about it lol.
