Hey you guys, so I just had my first prenatal visit and was told to not use anything containing Salicylic Acid or Benzoyl Peroxide for my acne while pregnant... My face is blowing up and that rule nixes every single face was or spot treatment I own. Any suggestions or recommendations for what I should try? Thanks in advance... I really hope this thread doesn't get deleted!

Washes not washed

With my three I just rolled with the acne. Once I hit my 2nd trimester it cleared up big time and I had that pregnancy glow that is wowed over. I just kept my skincare pretty simple as to not further irritate my skin. With my last pregnancy I just switched to Aveeno skincare products. SPF also kept the pregnancy mask in check ( when you get the dark splotches on the skin from hormone levels going into overdrive).

Cucumber and lemon (diluted) will naturally help your skin. cucumber will reduce redness and soothe while the lemon cleanses and dries up acne naturally.

As Erin said, cetaphil does not have these. Simple brand doesn't either. Both are lovely cleaners that cleared up my acne :)

No lemon on your face, very bad idea and too damaging just for something that will go away on its own. I agree with Shelley on this one, since your acne may be hormone related I think it's best to just ride it clear and let it take its course. You can always do little things like make a green tea toner to help with redness and inflammation.

Thanks Kitty. How do you make a green tea toner? Just brew some tea, let it cool and you're set? Because my face is very red in some places that's what is bothering me the most.

The beginning is very hormonal with acne and so is the end. But you could try natural washes.

I like trader Joes products. the tea tree wash is perfect for breakouts without drying out your skin. and I use their tea tree oil as spot treatment (only a day or two. this can dry your skin long term. it pure tea tree which is an astringent).

I also like the body shop seaweed line when I have breakouts..
all the best with your pregnancy!!  ;-)

I use Green Tea with some Aloe Vera juice, and add a bit of a non-comedogenic oil in it. I let it cool off and keep it in a container which lets it stay cool, perfect for when my skin is irritated and red. You can put some on a cotton pad and softly press it to any areas where the redness and inflammation is at. You can follow up with some diluted tea tree oil if your doc allows it.

Tea tree oil has worked for me as a spot treatment better than salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide:)

Get all skin care cleared through doctot. Even natural product can be harmful during first trimester... eg. Essential oil.
