I'm trying to grow my hair out really long but need help deciding what kind of cut to get (long layers perhaps?) I'm over having short, incredibly thick hair!

Why are you cutting it if you want to grow it out long? It doesn't look like you have damaged ends..

What I have at the moment doesn't suit me, I want a style where it's easy, and I don't lose any length.

Lol you can grow it out without trimming it. If you trim it, you're going to lose length. But I've seen girls shave the underneath of their hair to thin it, also getting lots of layers, and then taking good care if it, using proper products, etc.

I want it to look nice it looks horrid at the moment... I'd like to thin it out a lot and leave it at that?

Then layers is the way to go. & your hair doesn't look bad!

If you want to grow it out, don't thin it or get layers. all your hair will be at different lengths and if you get split ends at the upper layers (closer to your scalp), all.your hard work to grow it out will be destroyed, because you will have to cut away all the hair up to where the split ends are. it's much easier to have a little trim when all hair is at the same length, because then you only have to cut off a tiny little bit. hope tgis made sense lol ^^. but I am talking from experience, I had my hair at butt length before I donated it.

I think long layers would look nice! Just because you don't see any split ends doesn't mean there are none. I would get maybe 1/4-1/2 of an inch off. I also think side bangs wouls look cute if you wanted to go that route(:

I'm fully aware about split ends possibly being present, but a picture doesn't show every detail sweetheart! I'm going off of what the picture provides and what the person in need provides, but thanks for your input!
