I am always watching videos on how to do smokey eyes and stuff like that but mine never come out like the video. Is it because of the brushes and eyeshadow I use?

For me I always use a separate clean blending brush to blend my eyeshadow also make sure you use a clean brush for each color so it doesn't get muddy and blend into one shade another thing I find that helps is to just blend the harsh edges and not the entire color (if that makes sense) to keep each color instead once again over blending it into one shade

Well it could be I find I normally get more pigmented higher quality eyeshadows when I spend a little more money but there are some great eyeshadows from the drugstore I recommend wet and wild and loreal some cheaper eyeshadows I've tried do have less color payoff and don't really give me a good look.

I'd suggeat using a primer and base this will help give a smooth eye and show better color pay off, the quality of the shadow helps a lot cuz you won't work so hard to get the colot in the pan cuz it will be true to color, brushes can make application eady or a living nightmare so a good brush is key to make blending easier and application

It could be the pigmentation of the eyeshadow, or the brushes you're using, the smaller they are the more precise they'll be, and the fluffier they are the more blended/softer the eyeshadow will turn out. Using a primer is super important! Depending on your foundation or concealer, you can use those as your primer if you don't feel like buying one, just make sure its a really long lasting formula that isn't too slippery and doesn't crease :)

I think it is possible to get Cheap eyeshadow to work well but prep is vital- have a concealer or primer if you have one. Try a damp brush for color intensity and patting the shadow on gradually n of course blending!.

Primer not only helps the color pop but it helps it keep from smearing and allows for an easier lay. I would try that. Then I would check your brushes. For a smokey eye make sure to have a round, angled and blending brush.

Use an eye primer! makes 100% difference.
