I'm looking for a powder to set my under eye concealer with. I find those "translucent" powders tend to come off a little ashy on me, even if I use the tiniest bit. Any other recommendations. Looking for something long wearing. Thanks!

Usually setting powder under the eye is not needed because it shifts the color.

ALL due respect to a moderator... Like, totally. I set under the eye in my salon if I've used cream or liquid. Maybe there's something Alma knows that I don't. I'm always learning new things! But perhaps if the translucent powders come off ashy on you, you could try a yellow based powder, like Ben Nye banana powder or the yellow powder in the Anastasia HAC kit.
Maybe setting under the eye is just personal preference? I'm not disagreeing at all, only adding a thought! 😀😃

I find on my clients who are darker pigmented that the yellow based powders work quite well. (Side thought)

You could try a "clear" skin perfector. I have 3 diffrent brands. Mally, Skinn & CoverGirl. Here is a pic of the Covergirl one. It's a clear, solid gel-like consistency. You have to buy your own sponge for the CoverGirl one. (sorry mines a little dirty).

It looks white, but It goes on clear.

I Agree with Alma, I use Ben nye powder sometimes but honestly if you have fine lines powder under the eyes just makes it more noticeable I use bye bye under eye concealer I don't set it and it last all day ,and the ben nye powder does slightly change the color and the yellow tone on dark skin tones just looks fake, I don't think you should notice that you have makeup on just flawless skin

Thank you ladies! I don't have a big issue with under eye wrinkles. It's the dark circles that are my main concern.

Interesting. I noticed that my daughter skips that step on me and then when she leaves I add the powder (thinking that she just simply forgot). Next time I'm going to skip that step of under eye setting powder.

For dark circles try a salmon, peach or orange concealer first then your concealer on top of it

Traci have you tried Bobbi Brown corrector?

Traci L.

No but Shelley has I believe , orange peach and salmon work better on our skin tone to cover dark spots or dark circles yellow is to brighten it but you will still be able to see a shadow under it if it's not color corrected first

Traci said it well thanks :-) if you have under eye issues corrector's are a must to ease it from showing.I use make up for ever 5 palette camouflage corrector.Even if your skin is also drying the powder could bring out the dryness, cracks also sink. You really only need to set with powder in the area's that need a bit of extra setting but other then that you could also skip the powder all around if your foundation/corrector holds up on its own.Under eye area shows up the most so I skip the powder and just tap on the corrector and let it set on its own.I always have to tilt the head back a bit and look up tap on corrector on the darkest area and sit for a minute so it set in place :-)

If you do set with powder under the eyes and you will be photographed, don't use anything with silica. It's impossible to blend it under the eyes well enough to prevent flashback. It's hard enough to buff it out on the rest of the face- products like MUFE HD, but the pics of celebrities with the white under the eyes (Angelina) are from silica based powder under the eyes. If I feel the need to set my undereye area, I spray a little UD All Nighter setting spray on a concealer brush and tap it on the area.

Silica isn't the problem it's the application, amount and skin type. You lightly apply it with a fan brush and if your skin is dry you don't apply powder because sits and attached to the dry area's.Silica powder is used all the time :-)

How weird! I usually always set with a bit if translucent powder because I notice when I don't it creases...maybe it is the concealer I'm using. Unfortunately, I have a little but if wrinkles under the eyes(I was always rubbing and tugging at my eyes as a kid; Shame on me). I've noticed MAC Studio Fix creases (hello dingbat, it IS a heavy consistency powder) lol but I've noticed with translucent powder it doesn't as much..a little over time, but not much.

@Mallory...I love Bobbi Brown correctors. Reach for mine only if I have major undereye darkness going on. Traci is right on with the colors needed for WOC along with Alma.

I always set my concealer under my eyes and it never creases. I use MAC pro longwear concealer and I'll use a MAC MSF in powder, hourglass ambient lighting powder or Ben nye banana powder
