So I'm well aware people are always saying hair, nail and skin vitamins are bad and people shouldn't take them; however, have any of you girls actually tried them personally and what were the pros and cons of using them? I know breakouts are common if you don't drink enough water whilst on them. I was wondering if these would hurt so bad for someone who actually has deficiencies?

I agree with Jacqlyn.

Thanks Jacqlyn for that informative response :) I just was curious because I already have a potassium deficiency and I'm anemic so I just thought I'd ask to see if anyone would know. I think I'll just go see my doctor about my blood levels, etc.and see what he could recommend :)

Jacqlyn has a very good point. I use rosemary essential oil from doterra instead of vitamins.

And thank you Alexis :) I'll definitely go and see how my doctor feels before I was to look Into purchasing anything I just figured I'd see what other opinions and experiences may have been :)

Thank you girls for being concerned though, really it's a good thing haha :)

OMG Jacqlyn...that must be hecka scary for you seeing your mom go thru that. :( I personally wouldn't touch them without first getting blood work done. And even then I still wouldn't put all my faith in it. You can get healthy hair by eating right...foods rich in Omega 3's...just to name one off the top of my head.

@ Jacqlyn, I'm sorry to hear that about your mum too by the way, I too have had to go to the hospital a few times from my deficiencies and it sucks lol :( I too was violently throwing up for daysss, couldn't keep food down at all, etc. So a doctor will be a just before I do anything :) hospitals take too long for me lol, I'm impatient so I don't want to get sick again haha!

Honestly, I've never taken any, but I hear they're no good. I don't know if that's bologna but I guess I'm no help! I never had taken any and I probably never will.

@Jacqlyn...so glad she is on the mend.

I'm with Yoland. I've tryed em and honestly didnt see no difference.

Basically what everyone else said lol. it's always better to get what you may be lacking through food, though. but yeah, checking with your doctor is always good :)

@Yolanda try & word things better. your comment "I'm tired of all these beezys on here getting their pants in a bunch tryna scare the crap out of everybody over the littlest things.." comes off rude to me & also inaccurate. no one on here tries to scare anyone, just warn of the potential dangers of taking pills & to consult the doctor. which is good advice & not scary at all. I also am not a beezy with my pants in bunch. not trying to be rude, your comment just rubbed me the wrong way.

I've taken them! And love them. It's a personal thing. Try it out, with caution. If you notice negative chsnges discontinue use, but don't let the negative experiences of others scare you away.

That's what I was trying to get across on a lot of previous posts, but my personal experience kept getting bashed by "beauty doctors." Lol. I agree with Codi, but you need to check with your doctor before taking on any pills, too much of something, such as Biotin (there's already tons of it in your food), in your body can cause negative changes. Definitely check with a doctor first!

I've taken a multivitamin with biotin for hair, skin and nails for a while. I didn't even know there was anything bad about this except for reading on here. I've had no negative side effects at all. My nails seemed to break less. I also have less breakage of my hair at the roots. Maybe it grows a little faster, but that wasn't an issue with me to begin with. My skin is about the same.

@Kat...beezy is a slang word for bitch. So you're not alone with feeling like that comment rubbing you the wrong way.

@Yolanda...its better to err on the side of caution than be sorry later so your comment was off-base along with the beautiful word choice to describe concerned beauties. I'm not a bitch but a 40 year old elder to you so keep the slang in the streets.

I'd rather be a paranoid "beezy with my pants in a bunch" than severely ill and in the hospital for taking pills that I didn't need to begin with.

Also, I will happily remain a "beauty doctor" who uses documented, reputable empirical scientific studies as basis for her comments. I post because people give ignorant, naive advice that can be potentially dangerous. THAT is what should scare people. Nobody here is qualified to tell someone they have never met to take any kind of pills, over-the-counter or otherwise. You (that is, the general everyone reading this) should never take ANY kind of vitamin, supplement, or other medication without consulting your physician, because it can be dangerous and nobody except your doctor can determine whether it is safe for YOU to take anything.

There's no reason to get upset. Everyone's entitled to their opinion... On here were all equal regardless of age or experience because we're just strangers trying to help each other out

@Codi...everyone is entitled to their opinion but the name calling is not cool and according to Yolanda a lot of us aren't viewed as equals in her eyes since we're beezys (aka bitches). And for that some of us do have a valid reason to be upset.

Being called an uptight bitch (Yolanda stating that we're "beezys [sic]... getting their pants in a bunch") and a know-it-all (Shanae's passive-aggressive comment about "beauty doctors") is a perfectly good reason to be upset. These people are responding in a completely rude manner and deserve to be called out on it. As I said before, I would rather pass around documented scientific evidence than anecdotes that could seriously harm someone. The goal isn't to scare, it is to inform.

Honestly the people in charge should address the plethora of bad, dangerous advice that keeps being posted on this site, before somebody gets hurt.

I agree that this is a place where everyone share their experiences and advice on beauty or even pills to enhance beauty. So what is the point of asking in this community their opinion if people bash other peoples advice. Stop judging and calling people names being a keyboard warrior. If you are tired of "beauty doctors". Why are you even here looking for opinions and advice? Or advising other people with your opinion and experiences. Doesn't that make you sort of a " beauty doctor" as well? Think! Sheesh!
