This may be gross, and I'm really sorry for posting, but I'm really desperate here... I took off my toe nail polish the day before yesterday, and it looks a bit discolored in towards the tip, and the nail… I'm not sure if its thicker or not... It reminds me of when I have (in the past) scraped glitter polish off my nails. I can't decide if my nails are just stained and damaged from polish, or if I have a minor fungus. Can any one help me? (And if asked, I can try to get a photo of it... I know it's hard to tell over description. Lol)

Emily this is not a medical website please use a doctor. Especially if you have any diseases that may impede wound healing you need to be cAreful with feet infections

It might just be discolored from the polish. I've noticed that if certain polishes stay on for awhile or if I use a certain color they will discolored my nails even if I use a base coat. If you are concerned that its fungus it sounds very minor and in stores they sell de fungal products made especially for nails it even looks like a little nail polish bottle with a brush.

This is pertaining to nails though Jenna. So I think it somewhat falls under this category. But I do agree if you think its super serious go to a specialist but to me it sounds like its from the polish.

Shawnna a fungus on nail could be a sign of infection. In patients with diabetes they can get a cut on their foot and if not treated properly it can lead to gangrene which is basically dead tissue which gets amputated.

All I know is if you leave nail polish on for months at a time, your natural nails turn yellow. I'm not too smart with infections or anything, I think you should go to the doctor.

My nails have been discolored a few times because of nail polish. But you may want to get it checked just to make yourself feel reassured.

Thank you everyone. I suppose I do need to see a doctor. I asked y'all because I was thinking it looked like it was on the top like nail polish can do. I hoped someone on here would have experienced something similar and be able to give advice. Anyway, thanks again every one. :)

If you have any reason to suspect a fungus, see a doctor. The sooner you diagnose it, the sooner you treat it and the easier it is to get rid of it.
Topical products cannot kill fungus that resides on the nail bed. The only treatment is internal medicine, and the nature of the medication means that the shorter the duration of treatment, the better. I had to take it for six months, and had to have liver function tests every few weeks. My infection was severe (compounded by damage to the nail plate that hindered diagnosis).
See a doctor as soon as possible. If it turns out to be nothing, then at least you know for sure.
