My Hair Won't Curl

I have long, somewhat fine hair.. Naturally wavy but I usually wear it straight. It's in pretty good condition. I can wear it curly if I scrunch it, but not curling iron curls/soft curls. It just WON'T. I tried doing it with my straightener and it just looked oddly crimped. I tried using a curling iron as a wand, and the curls were very very limp. I held it up to 20 seconds. It just doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Hey:) as u can see from my pic I have really curly hair. To get my hair even more curly, i braid it the night before. When you braid it, use kinky curls. U can find it at any drug store like Cvs or rite aid. After you braid your hair with the product, put a shower cap or even a bonnet on your head while you sleep. In the morning you will have PERFECT beach curls:) u can even curl it now, because your hair is easy to curl now enjoy!!

Try a diffuser with a little bit of curling cream works like a charm I have thick course hair and it leaves your curls soft and looking great!!

First yu need a good mousse after washing yur hair then yu gotta curl your hair in small sections not big chunks and before curling each section yu gotta hairspray it then curl it then yu should hairspray it again for more hold

allison, when i was trying to curl the other day, it was on 2nd day hair! it didn't help:(

thanks for the ideas to braid etc, but i don't get the look i want from that. i don't want crimpy, wavy hair, and that's what i get from braids.

I agree about using a setting spray before you curl. I like Redken Spray Starch or Hot Sets for more hold.

My hair is naturally wavy/ curly. If I want defined curls I wash my hair and let it dry naturally over night. The next day I curl it using tongs and they last until I next wash my hair. The drop a little over night but I go over them the next day and they are bouncy again.

I think rollers would be best. You can find them at any local drugstore. They wont damage your hair and there easy.
The curls are beautiful also.

Hmm, I'm not sure. If you're curling about a 1 inch section... After you release your hair from the iron try spraying each section with a flexible hold hairspray (like dove) sometimes as the hair hangs there it can straighten out as it cools so if you spray a little hair spray and maybe lift it up with your hand it will stay. I'll try to find a good video to better explain it.

Try using baby wipe as hair rollers. Take sections of your hair as if you where using rollers the ends will tie up nicely. Place your hair in a cap I like to use silk. Next morning untie and voila bouncy curls. Run your fingers or a wide comb through them to soften them up.
