I didn't know a good title for this question.
I've been sick for about 3 weeks now. I had laryngitis and an URI. And just when I started to feel better , I caught a cold. So now I'm sick again and wondering, what should I do with my makeup? I've been wearing the same makeup since I first got sick. Should I toss it? Do any of you ladies toss makeup/ disinfect makeup when you get sick.
I'm just not sure if my makeup could be a reason I keep getting sick.

You definitely need to disinfect it.

Do you know how to disinfect it?

You can spray alcohol on it:)

It depends on the products.

Pressed powders (including face powder compacts and eyeshadows): spray with 70% isopropyl alcohol, allow to air dry.

Solid Lipsticks, Eyeliners, and other pencils: spray with the alcohol, allow to dry. Wipe the product with a clean tissue to remove the outermost layer (or sharpen pencils) then spray again. Wash your sharpener.

Items in a tube with a wand: throw away and replace, these cannot be sanitized.

Creams, gels, liquids without a pump, and squeeze tubes: These also need to be replaced. Bacteria enters the product and begins to multiply, and it is impossible to separate contaminated product from clean.

Liquids with a pump: wipe down the entire surface of the packaging with alcohol, particularly the pump. If you can, remove it and wash it. Don't forget to wash the cap/lid.

Brushes: Wash with brush shampoo of your choice, and dip the bristles in alcohol for ~30 seconds. Allow to air dry standing up (bristles down).

Sponges, Beauty Blenders, and puffs: these cannot be fully sanitized and need to be replaced. The viruses and bacteria will remain in the core of the sponge no matter how thoroughly you try and wash it. Microwaving them will not sanitize them.

Honestly as being a nursing student I don't bother to disinfect my makeup after I'm sick. Your body builds up an immune response after your sick so you don't get sick to that certain bacteria or virus. You probably just caught something else in the environment.

While you may not get another cold from your contaminated makeup, you very well may get conjunctivitis. Sanitizing makeup is quick and easy, why risk it?

Okay thanks...

I agree with Jenna. I've been sick and never had problems with my makeup. Never even thought that was possible. think it's possible you caught things from the environment. I wouldn't want to just throw away all my mascaras and expensive primers, gels and creams!
