Milk of Magnesia.. good or bad?

So basically I've been watching YouTube videos & reading a lot of beauty blogs today & I just came across a lot of people using milk of magnesia as a face primer before they apply their foundation. I didn't really see anything bad about it, but I was wondering if anyone else has gave this a try before? & if so, how did it work? & also did it change your skin.. as in like acne or anything?

I would think it's pore clogging.. I'm not sure though.

I've heard it's bad because it changes and messes up the ph balance your skin is supposed to have and causes cystic acne, I've heard of a lot of youtubers using it and none have ever said anything bad but I feel that if it's something that isn't made specifically made for your skin then don't do it. I copied someone's response to this method but like I said I've never researched it or looked into it

"On a scientific level, this is dangerous for your skin. It kills a layer of bacterial protection. And, to use it as a primer can have adverse effects. Please do your research if you choose this method. And do not promote anyone to do this on even a semi-regular basis. Just to put into perspective your skin needs to have a basic pH like 4.2-5.6. Milk of magnesia has a pH of 10.5. Do you really want to put that on your face?"

It strips the skin and can cause other issues. While using it once in a blue moon under stage makeup won't kill you, repeated use can cause problems.

Yes, when a product is not pH balanced to your skins level, it can alter the state of the epidermis and break away the acid mantle which is the protective layer on your skin which protects against bacteria, environmental factors, etc.and can cause dehydration, acne, and other skin conditions. So I would suggest against it of course as well as products not naturally balanced

I wouldn't use it on my face if it's not meant to be used on my face. I wouldn't use it.

Thanks so much ladies!! I guess this is what they don't tell you during the YouTube videos & reviews lol.

I do not recommend using milk of magnesia on your skin for a few reasons.

Not wanting to be shiny or have oily-looking skin is a perfectly fine thing; however one of the main ingredients in M.O.M is Sodium Hypochlorite, otherwise commonly known as bleach. This will not just give you a matte appearance for one wear, but will rather start to permanently "de-grease" your skin, by stripping it of necessary oils. It does this with the help of the main ingredient in the product; Magnesium Hydroxide, a chemical that absorbs the lipids on the skin.

M.O.M has an alkaline pH that messes with the acidity of the skin, leaving the skin dry and more prone to irritations and infections, like acne and peeling, etc...

Hope this helped!:)
