I've just got some nice make-up brushes but I'm not sure on how to clean them or if there are any big don'ts or even do's? I'm not sure if this is the right category either so sorry if it's in the wrong one!

I use baby shampoo and for short-term cleaning I use a sephora brush cleaner.

I use the gentle palmolive dish soap for a deep clean. And the elf daily brush cleaner for everyday clean :)

My regime: spot clean to remove a highly pigmented shadow from a brush, I spray with rubbing alcohol in a little spray bottle and wipe off on a tissue. To clean my foundation brush daily, I use parian spirit. Once a week I shampoo my brushes with Aveda shampoo and conditioner, just like I'd use on my hair. It sounds weird but it works. I use the shampure and rosemary mint conditioner. They smell nice. And the brushes have held their shape really well without any buildup. I haven't worried about disinfecting because the spray cleaner is going to be lethal to germs loaded with alcohol as it is. I dry them laying flat on a clean dry wash cloth or hand towel. Someday I'll invest in a drying rack!

Mary and Jenny: what dishsoaps do you use and how much olive oil? This makes sense because I read somewhere that most shampoos are like 90% similar to dishsoap anyway, but that companies change the fragrances, colors and add fancy additives to shampoos sometimes, but mostly what you get that actually cleans your hair is the same as dish soap. Doesn't the olive oil leave a buildup?
