Major dry flaky skin & nothing is helping!

My poor skin hasn't been normal in over two months now & nothing is improving the condition.

My skin is flaking around my eyelids, tip of the nose, left jaw line & on my forehead. Not to mentioned that it is dry as a desert!

I would also like to point out that I can't exfoliate my skin anymore because it causes mega sensitivity & makes things worse.

The weather is currently transitioning into Summer for us Aussies but it's currently dry & not at all humid which I believe is a factor.

So far, I've tried oil (rosehip, olive, coconut & almond), double duty moisturiser, Clinique Moisture Surge set, Elizabeth Arden 8 Hr cream, The Body Shop Aloe Vera leave on mask, Avene Thermale Rich Skin Recovery Cream & the list could just go on!

I'm drinking over four bottles (950ml) of water a day & avoiding soda.

Please, any suggestions would be just AWESOME! I'm now desperate to take control of my skin.

Try out black seed oil. I once had a similar problem and that helped a lot. It is more of a healing product than a moisturising one. It really helped. I also used chemic-less creams I think it's called aqueous cream it cost me?1 and is the best by Kingsley house. It has no smell. I hope that helps. do not use products that have unnatural ingredients xx

Hi Annie!
Could you list what products you use in your skin care routine along with what exfoliant you used as well?

Hi kitty, I am currently undergoing a more natural skin care routine which consist of coconut oil mostly and I exfoliate my skin with LUSH Oatifix mask on some occassions, most of the time I just mash a banana and mix a bit of sugar with honey as well.

For my eyes which is suffering more than the rest of my face, I am currently using Clinique moisture surge eye cream as it seem to work better but right now, it's not doing much.

You should try Vitamin E oil. My skin tends to dry really fast on my nasal area and surrounding my lips. The oil is a bit thick depending o the consistency that you choose to but, but it works. Not only does it help with dryness it also helps your under eye circles, dark spots, and wrinkles. I have also used Aquaphor, at night before I go to bed.

I suggest using jojoba oil, jacqlyn w, a user on here uses it & she also has very dry skin. She suggests using the NOW brand ,from GNC I think. It's a heavy oil but it absorbs well:-) good luck

I agree that Jojoba would help. I apply my moisturizer and an hour later (at night) the oil after everything has soaked in. Aquaphor is amazing, but can cause breakouts for some individuals.

I'd invest in a hydrating wash, such as CeraVe and beneath foundation, use a hydrating primer...skipping powder.

If jojoba and Vitamin E oil don't work, my grandma always used cocoa butter in lotion form. I like to take the actual oil and mix it with my favorite scent free lotion. It's always worked for the worst of my dry skin.

Coconut Oil along with most other oils work great for dry skin.
However, they only act as sealants which is why your skin continues to dry out. If you aren't contributing any moisture to your skin, there will be no way for your skin to be moisturized.
Honey is also great, but is a humectant. A humectant helps attract moisture to the skin so it's great to use in humidity, but if there is nothing to contribute ( aka dry winter air ) your skin will only be dried out. Oatmeal is also quite similar. Butters (Cocoa, Shea, etc. ) Are also sealants with very little moisturizing factors.
Jojoba Oil works nice for dry skin, but will not do any justice just like the other oils have you don't pair it up with a moisturizer. Don't be afraid of the term 'chemical' as everything on this planet is made up of chemicals and the term is just a marketing scare tactic to attract more customers. What you want to actually pay attention to are
1. Type of Alcohol used in products
Is it a solvent alcohol or a fatty based alcohol?
2. Amount of fragrance used
Is it at the top of the list or at the bottom? The less the better
3. Beneficial ingredients
Hylauronic Acid is 1000 xs its weight in water. Moisturizers with HA are very beneficial for the skin. Ceramides, peptides, and vitamins also help.
4. Ingredients that are not harsh
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is too harsh for the skin and hair, however Sodium Laureth Sulfate is very gentle.

I recommend a hydrating wash, followed by a chemical exfoliant which is actually far more beneficial to your skin than a physical scrub and can be way more gentle, and a serum aimed towards hydration with a moisturizer and a couple of drops of your favorite oil in it. This will give you a perfect power combination and make 'dry, flaky skin' a thing of the past. :)

My son has this issue right now and he usually does this time of year his doc actually told me to use Aquaphor after he showers and use a hydrating body wash but don't scrub the skin. Before meeting with his doc I tried coconut oil and Jojoba oil with no success it just ended up making his skin look red & raw :-\
