Has anyone ever tried this? I'm not referring to the crayon method. I'm referring to buying an actual kit to make your own lipstick (lipstick bullet molds, uncolored base, colorants, etc). If so, where did you buy the items needed to make your own lipstick? Did it work well? Pics/swatches? Thanks to anyone who responds!

I just tried to respond via my phone but the app closed up on me. So if does appear forgive me for the double post. Another BL beauty tried that last year, purchased a kit online, and tried to make her own lipstick and it was a messy fail. Personally I wouldn't even indulge in such a undertaking because the science lays in getting the pigment ratio right and having the right fillers measured out. I've seen first hand in a cosmetic lab just how tedious an undertaking it is even for them with all the tools necessary to create lipstick. Its not uncommon to waste a couple thousand dollars in ingredients just to get the right mix to then go and mass produce the approved product. And with DIY lipstick kits you aren't getting the much needed emollients to make the lipstick feel comfortable on the lips...so you might have to tweak it either during its creation or invest in a really good lip balm. Personally, just give me the finished product in its pretty packaging. If you have the patience and a decent science background and still want to try it out check out DIY Cosmetics...they have a website and contact number is 520-248-4276 and website is www cosmeticpigments. They are based out of Arizona.

@Shauna...lip balm is so much more easier to make than lipstick. And all the ingredients can be picked up at the health food store. My daughter has made her own to save her pricier one's from quick extinction. None of her clients haven't had any issues with it either.

I agree! It's so much easier to make and you know it's good for you!

I always wanted to buy old vintage bullet lipsticks and fill them with new product by melting down lippies and transferring them over. My kinda messy science/cooking project, but I never did it. I'd love to make some lip balm. That sounds doable.

@Shelley I was kinda worried about the ratios and thing needed for it. I just bought a kit to see what I can create. My job is about to slow down until the new year so I'll have plenty of time to experiment. Thanks so much!
