How to clean up and perfect French braiding?

I've never been a braided by any means so I never really learned how to French braid. I've recently began becoming wet interested in braids and French braids are pretty basic, and they are virtually the platform for other more complicated braids. I tried today on my moms hair and it was hard as heck , and messy. It was my first time doing so, and I had a pictorial to give me a vague idea. How can I clean up French braids? Learn on myself and also how can I perfect the technique? I'll include a picture of the braid I did! As you can see it's pretty terrible 😂

A small tip is to dampen the hair slightly. Midst the hair with water lightly by a spraying lightly or spray the brush and comb through it. That will reduce frizz.
