Hello! I'm looking into dyeing my hair in sort of a purple ombre type thing. This picture is pretty much exactly what I want, kind of subtle. I have black hair now and I plan on going to a salon to get it done. My question is, how fast would it fade? What could I do to stop the fading? Also, I need it to be normal-colored again a few months later (being in professional settings) Would I have to strip the purple and redye it black, or could I let it fade and redye it? Thanks in advance :)

The less natural the color, the faster it fades. Washing hair in cold water with a sulfate-free shampoo as few times as possible will help it keep longer. Mixing purple dye into your conditioner will add back a little color each time as well. If you're planning to re dye it black, you won't need to strip the color; you can just dye over it.

Adding on to what Beautiful Ms. Megan said.. there's also a shampoo and conditioner that's specifically for your color hair from John Frieda that you can purchase at any drug store. Hair masks and treatments will mend the damage. As long as you use a color safe shampoo and conditioner for your hair color, you'll be fine.
