At the end of september I'm going to a steampunk con and I've never really gotten the chance to dress up for this kind of thing, so I have no idea what kind of makeup/hair I should do! I'm going with a brown corset with brass buckles and a creme colored dress underneath it that I'm still making, but I need to know if I'm going to need help getting ready.

Wow this is interesting! but I'm sorry to say I haven't got any great suggestions for makeup, other than copper eyeshadow and a nice hold cheekbone highlight. For hair, I would definitely go for an updo, but it depends on your current length. Otherwise, a wig could do the trick. I would love to see a huge voluminous dreadlock updo.
I think that if you practice all month, you'll be able to do it yourself.

Vintageortacky (Cora) has a tutorial for this from Halloween time last year. the make up she does for it is just beautiful.

OMG!! Where is this convention?
A corset would be great and then having a button up shirt with a collar. Get a white skirt. Put it underneath your dress and then pin up a sir of the dress. You can fool around with this part. Black or browntights and then some black heels or combat boots. :)
I'm actually sewing a steampunk costume.
Hair I would go with some plain curls and then add a top hat or a gold headband :)
If you want to you can add some black or brown gloves
Kristen's second picture for makeup would be great :)

The era of steampunk was Victorian times, so if you want to dress it up... I'd do huge elaborate bring. Did steampunk pirate for Phoenix ComiCon this year. I thought about a top hate for a long time but figured this was more "pirate meets victorian lady" and you can find a floppy sun hat pretty easy

Oh, the way I'm standing is weird, but that's a severed Kraken arm on my right side (Cuz you'd have totally known otherwise,  right?)??
