Here's my story, please read the whole thing!! :(
I was using Kat Von D's foundation until I tried the stay fabulous foundation, and thought it was a cheaper alternative. I was using it for a few months, and then I started noticing that my lips and the corners of my mouth were becoming more dry than usual. Then the corners started cracking (this was the end of march, so I blamed it on cold air or something). Then I started noticing that areas of my face were becoming more dry and almost scaly-feeling, and the delicate skin around my eyes felt more rough.
I just came back from a week-long vacation to Jamaica, where the air is nice and just the right amount of humid, bringing my skin back to normal. As I got back to Canada and started wearing foundation again, I got the dry lips, cracked corners, and rough skin again.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar?? I like this foundation, but if I'm having an allergic reaction, I need to find an alternative :(

I'm using this right now but my skin is pretty oily, but I think maybe you should try something else maybe. I personally was not too impressed by it, it made my skin look not natural and weird aha.

It's definitely possible to be allergic to certain cosmetic ingredients especially when they are pool quality ingredients, harsh chemicals, or animal based ingredients just depending on your skin you can have an adverse reaction - the best thing to do is figure out what ingredients caused the reaction and stay away from those ingredients in the future.

But dry lips n rough skin have nothing to do with allergic reactions to cosmetics... That has more to do with the dryness of your environment - so invest in lip balm and a good moisturizer for your face and an eye cream for your eyes.

@Diana...the dry lips could be related to the foundation. In the dermo world there is a term for it but I can't remember the terminology of what it is. But I can give you an example...there was a textbook study that I read in my husband's textbook of a woman who was using a hair dye. After about a couple of uses over a 6 month period she started to discover issues appearing on her face. Cracked, hyperpigmented skin. She changed skincare products but it progressively became worst. Standard allergy testing was put into play and come to find out she was allergic to a few of the ingredients in the hair dye and the reaction was centered on her face and neck. Not every irritation is localized to where a product is used.

@Liza...I got a reaction very similar to that from using a lip balm. As soon I stopped using it the issue went away...with a whole lotta of TLC. Definitely leave that foundation alone and if you can afford it go to a dermo and get a allergy test done so you can narrow down the ingredient (s) that cause you grief.

I looked up the ingredients list on this product. Yuckiness in a bottle. Phenoxyethanol is a common preservative that is in a lot of products...skincare and cosmetics. Its a major irritant in my life and if it sits too high on the ingredients list like it does in this foundation I'm bound to experience serious irritation. Another thing I noticed is that it contains ensulizole...a new sunscreen component that is fairly new to the market. But what is a little concerning is that it only protects the skin against UVB rays but not against UVA. So not only is this product loaded with 'cones, a nasty preservative but it also contains limited UV protection. Definitely leave that junk alone. :(

Liza, did you use a different toothpaste when you traveled? Like a travel size and therefor a different brand or formula?
I ask because I've found certain brands cause terrible reactions to the corners of my mouth and my Monroe piercing, almost making it feel like it's becoming infected. It took me a while to figure out that those things were triggering the reactions. So that could be what's going on with your mouth.
The rest of your face could be the foundation change.

@Bree, I have that very same problem, I started using a new toothpaste and I broke out soooo bad around my mouth and chin, the corners of my mouth started bleeding and I was getting horrendous acne! crazy!
@ Liza, I would totally listen to Shelley, it sounds like that foundation is no good. It was very nice of her to research the ingredients for you :)

Ugh Covergirl is just the worst. I've never been able to use ANY of their products without some kind of reaction. "Easy, breezy, beautiful" INDEED.

You definitely can get dry lips and rough cracked skin as a form of dermatitis from using products that don't agree with your skin but to me it sounds like your moisture barrier has been compromised and you need to use more hydrating things under your makeup, hydrating cleanser ,hyaluronic acid serum and a more hydrating foundation ,lip balm and hydrating eye cream will all help also use a toner to help bring your skins ph level back to normal, under your eyes, corners of mouth and sides of nose are the most ssensitive parts of your face so any irritation to a product usually starts there .
