I find that a light purple on the lid with a white on my tear duct and waterline with a dark purple on my crease and outer V makes them not only wide and awake but makes my eyes seem like a light chocolate (my eyes are classified as Black :) )

navys, dark blue hues and purple or violet shades will work well for Brown eyes. mine are uber dark brown, almost black and when I want it to look more brown, I use those shades.

Another vote here for purples and blues! Blue is opposite orange on the color wheel, and brown is basically just a very dark orange. Purples will bring out the yellow/hazel tones in your eyes if you have any.
