My hair is really heavy and I have the same problem - I find keeping them in foam rollers with dry hair overnight helps but still by then end of the day they go back to my normal slightly wavy pattern.

My curls also don't last but what I notice was that they last more longer when I curl my hair with a wand and I don't use hairspray
