I'm not exactly sure what category to put this in so I'm sorry if its in the wrong place! So I've been looking this up online but I always just find mixed reviews, but which is better to work at, Ulta or Sephora? I am needing a job that is flexible with college and both are hiring where I'm from. Pro's:Con's (obviously its still a job but in your honest opinion which would you choose). BTW my Sephora is located in a JCP. Thanks!!πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•

Hmm well I've never personally worked at either but from the reviews I've read, ulta is a terrible company to work for. They have you cut back to work five to ten hours a week, unprofessional management and overall the workers just were not happy. I don't go to ulta anymore bc the customer service is terrible. Soo maybe sephora would be the better choice haha it's all your preference though! Good luck.

I heard that sephora is not a very good place to work at From a neighbor of mine she had a family emergency with her baby at daycare and she had to leave immediately and they told her if she left she was fired.

Hmmm thanks ladies, I'm still trying to decide. The only good thing though, is that I live in a small area so maybe they would be more forgiving than a bigger store would be...?

I think it's different ever where depending on where you live! my ulta and senhora have great costumer service and they seem happy working there.

It's definitely different every place. It's all the management. So it'll be different in every city and every store. Some managers will be super great and some will think everything you do is wrong and won't believe you for anything.

I know a lot of people who have or still work at sephora and it's very hit or miss depending on the management people. There's 3 sephoras in my city and 2 of them are super good, the staff is great, everybody loves working there but the 3rd location the management sucks, they are always understaffed because the manager is rude and if you miss a sale (like someone comes in wanting something but leaves with nothing or just samples) you get docked commission and your hours get cut unless you're raking in sales, it's just a shitty place to work. But it's definitely not all of them. I'm from Canada so I don't have any ulta's. I have a friend in the states who worked at both sephora and ulta though, she loved sephora until her manager who was an older lady found out she was gay, then things got awkward for my friend because every time she'd go ask her something (work related) her manager would yell at her for hitting on her. She worked there for 8 months before her manager found out (she wasn't hiding it) and she loved it, but her girlfriend came to pick her up and kissed her and her manager just got so freaked out. She quit a few weeks later. But she went from sephora to ulta and hated ulta lol. She needed full time since she was living on her own and was supporting her little brother, and ulta gave her an hour less a week than full time. So she didn't get any benefits and was still being paid for part time. They told her after 3 months shed be put on full time. 3 months later she asked and they didn't have enough hours for her to be full time and cut her hours down so she was only working one shift a week.

I'd definitely go get to know the employees first. Like next time you're shopping just go "hey what's it like to work here? Does management treat you well?" And they're usually pretty Honest. Or if they get clammed up you know it's not a good place lol. Then you can go apply a few weeks later if they answered it's a good place.

Sorry that was a book lol. But another thing is, if all the staff is always in a grumpy mood, it's likely the workplace rather than employees so I'd stay clear of them.

Do you currently shop at both of these stores? If so, have you noticed new employees every time you go, or do you always see the same people? That could be an indication without having to necessarily ask someone straight out. If they're always there when you go, and they seem genuinely happy to be there...

I HATED working at ULTA. Worst job I've ever had.

After I quit they still owed me over $300 and I didn't get it until a year later. They are terrible to work for.

Wow thanks everyone! You all helped so much!

@Jocelyne, both of mine are pretty good as far as customer service goes, especially compared to how they used to be, but both are really friendly now.

@Alyx, thank you for your input, it really made me consider some things I haven't really thought about yet. I'll probably ask some of the girls at both stores. πŸ’•

@Katie, all the (well maybe not all) employees have worked their a while and both stores seem nice to work at. I'm sure I'll ask some of the girls that I usually get to help me cause they seem like they would give me an honest opinion.

@Bobbie, thats horrible! I think I'm leaning closer to Sephora because I like more of the products they offer and I think I would like the atmosphere better. I'll definitely take into what you mentioned but like some of the others that commented all stores are different so I may just have to try one out and see how it goes! Lol

Thank you all so much!!πŸ’•
