Hi ladies. c:
I need you guys to my rescue.
So for my birthday on Sunday, I went and got my nose pierced. I went to a supposed highly reputable tattoo/piercing shop in my area, but I'm starting to have my doubts. When I arrived, she asked me which jewelry did I want to start off with. Ultimately I wanted a hoop, but I read somewhere that a stud is better to start off with. I answered a stud, but she then recommended I start with a hoop, so I went with her suggestion. She pierced me with a 16g and started me off with a horseshoe ring--keep in mind, this is a nostril piercing and not a septum. I'm trying to decide on whether or not I want to downsize to an 18g, and I'm really not diggin' the horseshoe. I loved it at first, but now...I'm not too sure. The way she positioned it, you can clearly see the one ball and I don't think I'm wearing it correctly. Basically I just want your guys' opinions on my situation. Is a hoop actually better to start with? Should I downsize? Should I go to another shop and have them switch it out?
Any opinions and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Okay, for starters; I've always gone to reputable piercings and every one had said no to getting a ring put in before a stud, the reason for that is because the healing with a ring will make it very difficult to wear studs in future because of how the hoop heals on a different angle then it would if it were a stud. I'm not sure why she'd put a horseshoe bar in there to begin with, I find that very questionable

Right! That's what I had thought, but she insisted that it would be best, and I thought I'd trust her since she's a "professional" and all, but I don't know now. /: I feel gypped.

Aw :( maybe go to anther piercer and ask them to maybe switch it to a stud? Might suck though because it's a newer piercing.

I would get a piercing stud and stick in it. Just so it heals correctly

If I get a stud, should I stick with the 16g? Ugh, this is all so confusing and ridiculous lol. Will it be ok healing-wise if I switch it myself right now?

How long have you had it? Really I wouldn't risk doing it myself especially if this would be the first time you're trying to get a stud in by yourself since having it pierced, sometimes they can be pretty tricky

But I think 16g is fine :) that's what mine are done at if I remember correctly haha.

It's been almost a week since I got it done. I'll probably stick to the 16 then. But now I just have to figure out where I'm going to go get it switched. Meh.

When I got my nose pierced I started off with a stud & I let my nose heal. from there you can downsize or go with a different ring design.

I wouldn't recommend you leaving the hoop on. Go get another opinion from a professional:) I'll ask my friend since he is a professional piercer (who did my nose) to see what would be best.

I wouldnt know what to tell you because I'm not a proffesional...but the nose peircing looks awesome on you! I think that if your having a lot of pain,something out of the ordinary,you should go back and let them know,customer satisfaction should always come first..

I had a hoop and mine was fine I can wear studs too. I got told a hoop is best due to swelling if I had a stud it would want to reject it. But like I said I had no problems.

Alli he said that a stud is what's best when getting your nose pierced. When getting a hoop it can be easier to cause an infection due to movement. As well it would take a little longer healing than what a stud would. Also he said when looking for the right piercer what would be a red flag is if they recommend getting your nose done with a gun or recommend getting a hoop when getting your nose pierced.

Haha, thank you Brenda! I'm glad you like it. I was hesitant to get it because I was nervous of whether or not it would look dumb, but then I was like screw it. :p I'm not having any strange things going on with it, but I also don't know what to expect you know?
I'm relieved to hear that your experience went well, Jade. Hopefully if I decide to keepe the hoop, mine will go as smoothly as yours.
Katriena, I was worried that's what he'd say. /: But if he is a professional, then it's probably best to take his advice. I was recommended to this girl by sooooo many people, I figured she knew what she was doing. Ugh. Well thank you for asking him. I guess it's back to the drawing board. Who knows if any of the other instructions she gave me are correct.

I know it happens a lot. There are piercers who aren't educated enough and just do whatever. My friend went to a piercer who was recommend by a family member and she immediately caught an infection and her skin started growing over her piercing. Just be very careful piercings are very sensitive and can easily get infected. If you have any other question feel free to ask. I can always get information for you whenever you like:)
