Ok so I am getting my cartilage pierced and I don't know what type of metal I want the earing. its my first piercing and I don't want it to get infected. so should it be sterling silver or something else, or maybe surgicsl. btw I'm getting it done at claires or icing.

I wouldn't even recommend getting them pierced at either of those locations. It's highly advised not to use a gun for piercings because they cannot be fully sterilized.

& they both use guns.

I got mine done at Claire's as well. I got a sterling silver diamond done there & it was painless.
I've had mine for a year & it got infected once for lack of cleaning. Some people say their solution isn't good, but I've had no problem with it. I used it the whole way through my piercing & don't sleep on it!! biggest mistake ever. It'll itch so badly a few weeks/months into. Just hold the pain & itch!! As for how painful it was, it was nothing to me since it didn't hurt one bit & out of 10, I'd say it was a 2.

I mean, it's not super bad as long as you take care of them properly. Guns just cause unnecessary added trauma which in turn can shatter the cartilage like the ladies said. They put you more at risk for infections, though, because they can't be fully sanitized.

But I mean, everyone gets pierced at Claire's, so like I said as long as YOU take care of it...but it still grosses me out how unsanitary guns are lol.

I'm starting anything here but most of piercings have to do with personal preference & the person who handles the machine/gives you the piercing.
Obviously you wouldn't get an amature to pierce or tattoo you, you'd get professionally.
Most of these complaints revolve around this & if some people are so against it just realize that its just a personal preference and/or your piercer.
But to lady who originally asked the question, if YOU feel in your gut it's right even from these bad reviews or mixed personal responses get it done. I got mine done, had ONE problem because it was MY fault & not the person or company.

Lol they're not complaints, just informative suggestions.

And they're not professionals, they don't even have proper training. Lol.

I understand Jacqlyn, but if thats what the person wants you can't force them. Personal preference for you is to avoid the gun. I wasn't trying to start anything just throwing my view on it.
& Renay I wasn't complaining I never said the word. I was informing people too, from my view. & I NEVER called Claire's employees professionals.

You said"most of these complaints revolve around this...", and I said what we were advising against weren't complaints just informative suggestions... Never said you were the one complaining, but okay. Lol.

Oh gosh! Thanks for the info Jaclyn! Now I know what the heck is wrong with mine:( Had mine done 8 years ago at Claire's and it still seems like it hasnt healed! I just thought it was normal.

To answer original? I got surgical steel and mine never got infected. Just follow all the rules and use a pillow with a cutout if you sleep on your side bc it will be pretty sensitive.
