Here is a face mask you can make your own, in your home! All you need is:
- a few drops from lemon juice
-1 table spoon honey
-2 table spoon greek yogurt
Mix the ingredients in a bowl , apply in all your face and neck, leave it for 10-15 min and wash well with warm water.

NOTE: Don't over do it with the lemon, especially if it's a sunny day. It is better if you do the mask in the afternoon.

Thank you everyone!! I hope you'll love the mask as I do!

Nonono... Lemon does not belong on skin, ever. It is highly concentrated citric acid, a photosensitive irritant that can cause serious problems like horribly painful burns that scar and hyperpigmentation.

Honey can cause allergic reactions in people with pollen allergies. Always patch test honey on the inside of your elbow before using it on the face or anywhere else. Honey contains varying amounts of hydrogen peroxide, which is a photosensitive chemical that can lead to the same issues as lemon juice.

Yogurt is mildly hydrating due to the presence of lactic acid, though it generally is equivalent to a standard moisturizer. Bacterial cultures in yogurt can also exacerbate acne in some people, so be careful when using it on the face.

This mask has more risks than benefits. Please research ingredients before you start slathering random crap from the kitchen on your face, or worse: telling others to do the same.

Emily W. I always try something before I recommend it to others. Allergies and side effects can happen from every product or ingredient. I believe that if anyone has any allergy would be smart enough not to try this recipe. There is no reason to be rude. If you disagree or don't like this post no hard feelings.

Anissa J. Thank you for your support. I hope she gets to see the results soon!

I wasn't being rude, I was stating facts. Many people are not aware that they have allergies and do not think to patch test. Some things just don't belong on the skin period (like lemons). Just because you used it without ill effects does not mean that it is safe or responsible to recommend to others.

Additionally, this thread misrepresents this recipe. This mask will not provide "extreme hydration" for the reasons I stated above. Honey is only a mild humectant and yogurt doesn't moisturize any more effectively than a basic lotion. Citric acid is an irritant that has no benefit for skin and actually causes dryness.

Compared to the commercially available skincare products that undergo stringent safety testing and have a very low reaction rate, a home remedy is very rarely a remedy at all.

Please understand that I'm not attacking you, only trying to prevent the spread of misinformation that is rampant on this site and has caused problems for other users in the past. It's a safety issue.

Sorry for the triple post as well; I was too quick to post.

I read your profile and saw that you have knowledge in chemistry. I'm a nutritionist, and I happen to know some things too. Please excuse my English if they are not correct enough. There is a whole database in this blog with recommendations of products ect. Every single one of them can cause some damage. I believe that when someone reads the posts is aware of the side effects that x product can cause. Citric acid from fruits is used in every face creme, even those made by natural products only. Dermatologists recommend them for acne scars or sun scars. I agree it is not a safe ingredient especially in countries as Greece because of the sun. But we have to be careful with everything. I would like to have a closure here. There is no way to over analyze it here. I would be happy to talk with you somewhere else. I don't know if this is possible, but if this post irritates you you can ask the Beautylish to remove it.

Stavroula, Emily wasn't personally attacking you. she was just stating facts and warning people. it may work for you but not necessarily for others. thank you for the post though!

I agree with Emily, a blog post about a hydrating mask is neither factual and I would be weary of what you read online. Blog posts do not mean it is verified information, blog posts are written by any other person and are as realiable as wikipedia.
I do not know any medical professional who would suggest any type of citrus fruits on the skin. The acid completely destroys the skin, and lemon juice makes sun scars worse. Now, from what I know a nutritionist has nothing to do with skin care.

Emily is correct, she is neither over analyzing information or attacking you. She is providing correct information and is sharing it with the community, people are not aware of the risks and assume because it is natural it is better.

Home remedies are usually filled with irritants and cause more damage than good. There has been a plethora of threads made by users on beautylish where they use these home remedies and it results in a red, damaged face.
No dermatologist will tell you to put lemon on your face, and we have a couple of skin estheticans as well who will tell you the same thing.

I agree with Emily and kitty. This mask is kind of asking for disaster with lemon and honey. Yogurt is pretty bad for acne too, it can inflame it more and cause more bacteria (that normally wouldn't be on your face) to grow inside/on your skin. Resulting in worse acne than before.

But especially lemon. Putting the smallest amount of citrus on your face can cause a phototoxic reaction called phytophotodermatitis, an inflammatory reaction that results in bruise-like hyperpigmentation, with the potential for nasty looking blisters and burning. It's often mistaken for chemical burns. it is dangerous, painful and really not worth it.

I'll provide the links whdn I get home but there's a study tested on 300 rats where they put a range of 1-15 drops of lemon or lime juice on them, washed it off with cleanser and then exposed them to the sun. In less than 3 minutes on over 90% of the rats they had triggered a huge reaction on the skin. Even sunblock didn't prevent it. They were going to do a live human study but the results on the rats were too brutal to do to humans. They did the same thing on donated dead bodies though, and again over 90% of the skin they tested broke out into nasty burns, blisters and bruises. The ones that didn't react got a visible sun burn in less than 10 minutes even with sunblock. If even dead skin reacts, it's likely yours will do.

Well I do yogurt masks all the time and I love them. Honey and lemon as well. No harm done to me. Seems like some of you are overreacting.

I want to stress that if ONE PERSON is lucky and doesn't have a reaction to something, it does NOT mean that it is a) safe to keep doing it, and b) safe to recommend to others.

We are posting valid, empirical data in order to warn people that this is dangerous. That is not overreacting, it's being responsible. This community is for sharing information that helps, not harms. Every time someone tells us that lemon is great for anything besides food, we have to do this all over again to stop people who don't do their own research from seriously injuring themselves.

Again, thoroughly researched scientific fact > anecdotes from bloggers who got extremely lucky and have NO CLUE what they are doing.

I agree 110% with Emily. Someone suggested to put drops of lemon juice in my moisturizer years ago to help with dark spots and acne and just those few drops gave me a horrible burn that took awhile to heal.

In defence of Stavroula, although I wouldn't advise lemon on the skin nor do I personally apply it. You can forgive her or anyone else for thinking lemon juice is beneficial to the skin as it's benefits are published everywhere - not only on blogs. Even on Beautilish Editorial as is happens 🙈 I think with all mask especially diy ones care and personal responsibility should be taken and you should do your own research rather than taking someone's word for it. As it has been mentioned everyone's skin is different and skin reaction may differ from person to person. I think everyone should take care when attempting diy recipes as it can cause skin disasters! I personally am a huge fan of oatmeal meal masks :)

Personally if these extremely knowledgeable woman are advising against using lemon on the skin you can bet your knickers I'm going to listen. Last thing I want is to look like someone threw up ham salad on my face. 😳 I'm beyond thankful to have someone look out for my well being like Emily and Kitty has.
