Ok, so I am a hairstylist myself so I prefer salon brand products. But I haven't had a job in a salon in about 2 years, so I know there are a lot of new products out there. Here's my situation:

I had two toned hair color last summer blonde highlights on top and about 4A on the bottom (dark ash brown).

I got pregnant that fall and decided to dye it all 4A so I wouldn't have to keep dying it and could just leave it alone because my high lights were growing out.

Well I had my baby in July and I went to color my hair because of course my blonde came through and my hair is terribly damaged where the blonde was. Now my hair won't take color and I need to get a good hair mask and a good leave in conditioner to get it back to normal so it will take color and not be two toned anymore :(

More like what products have worked to get your hair back into shape after intense damage. Sorry for not being specific 😝 but if you have had something that really worked for your hair I'd love to hear about it!! My hair is so yucky!

Eggs are super good for hair. They make your hair shiny and healthy.

Is the honey hard to get out? Do you shampoo first and then put this in?

I put this before shampooing.

Also, I just use coconut oil in my hair. I leave it in for about thirty minutes and then wash it out. If you don't wash it all out, it will make your hair super oily, but once it's all out, it makes it shiny and soft. :)

Coconut oil. leave it on however long you want, I usually leave it for a few hours. with the egg make sure not to wash it out with hot or really warm water or it may "cook" in your hair lol.

@Kat A. - lol for real!! That's crazy lol I almost want to try it just to see it happen! (Cooking the egg) haha jk but I will definitely use coconut oil in it tonight I hope it helps. I go back to work from maternity leave on Monday so I will probably color my hair Saturday night and see if it helps my hair hold onto that color!

Ok sounds like you need a Protein or keratin treatments. your hair is not taking color because the cuticle is so blown out (meaning its very damaged and the cuticle is remaining open allowing color to slip out.) pureologys hydrating hair mask is great but a mask may not cut it. you can only repair hair so much. a little patience, growing and a good hair cut would work best.

If you do decide to color again then use a semi color and do a filler first.

I agree with Kelly, you should use a filler first before the color. With redken they suggest a fill every 2 shades, I am not too familiar with the suggested filler for other color lines. As for the mask, Pureology Strength Cure masque works well, it does have a very strong baby powder scent. Another awesome hair mask is the enjoy hair mask, not sure where you could pick that up though if you are looking for whole sale.

And of course, if you can stand to trim it up, it could help from additional breakage.

And by shades, I meant levels. Sorry, I was thinking of filling with shades eq.

I used swartzkopf 5.65 Demi permanent for an all over gloss at first. Right now my hair is a true level five but the old blonde strands are like a 7. I'll definitely get the pureology mask, an old co worker also recommended a Malibu treatment as well. Coconut oil worked ok, just made it a little softer. I'm not sure I'm ready for a short cut yet :(

I'd use shades EQ I'm wanting a brown red color. Went I went and looked it looked like I'd have to mix certain ones to get what I want.

Surface makes an awesome bassu hydrating maque and their bassu oil is amazing, it actually heals the hair!
