My acrylics don't seem to stay on long enough, help please..

Are you doing them yourself or in a salon? The main reasons would be, acrylic is touching the skin, so moisture gets in and lifts the nail. Not preping the nail properly, removing cuticle, removing shine, not using primer. Make sure you don't make the free edge longer than your nail bed as they would be out of balance. Make sure your using good quality products, (acrylics from eBay don't last or work properly) also make sure your not opening boxes/cans with your nails. If you have done all these things let me know as there are some rare reasons I have found, so I can give abit more advice :)

I'm doing them myself and have had a look on tonnes of YouTube videos and can't see what the problem is. I lightly sand them down with a nail file, then primer, then acrylic. it isn't touching my skin but I am abit heavy with them, do I have to be really gentle with them on? I use nail forms too if that makes any difference?:)

they wont stick if u only/lightly sand them. nail bed needs to be very rough not smooth or they will lift within a wk

Use a 150 grit file rather then a buffer, don't file too much, you want them to go chalky. You could try priming the nail and popping it under the lamp, or priming twice. If they are very thick this may be a cause too as they aren't balanced.

I only use 100, I i mean so I'm not filing my nails off. I file them till there not shiny, no they're not thick, how long under the lamp?
Nov 13, 2012
Leighanne H.
Yeah that should be fine. 20 sec under the lamp is enough. :)

thanks, done one hand earlier so I'll do other hand tomorrow. they are really short and damaged though, will nail forms still work?:)

I have to be honest I don't use forms a lot. When you said they don't last, are they snapping or lifting? If snapping then the forms aren't working :)

they are snapping. my nails aren't long so I use them:) how can they not be working?
Nov 14, 2012
Leighanne H.
It could be that the acrylic isn't supporting the extension. Have you trying tips?
Nov 14, 2012
Keri T.
maybe, I'll try tips but my nails are all red from last time I did them.

Ouch! You may have over filed, or if you pulled them off that would cause that. My nails were like that when I started practising. Your nails should really have a rest period if they're like that. :/ try practising on someone or a fake hand or finger (you can get them cheap on eBay)

yeah that is what happened, but I can see where it's growing out. like there's a line where it's not red at the bottom, the new growth I think. I'm giving this hand a rest and using cuticle oil ifs that good?:)

Yeah cuticle oil will really help, massage your cuticles to help blood flow and use a nail strengthener if you have one :)

it isn't working for aslong as it should. Meant to last like two week right? it is lasting like three days but some of them stay on for ages. I thought it might be what i am buying so asked my boyfriend to get me 'The Edge' which I know is a really good make:) but I am still doing something wrong:( And bought some nail prep, thought that moght help but obviously not.
