hello ladies,
I have combination dry skin, and my face has red patches on my cheeks and only a few acne scars (thankfully my skin isn't breakout prone). I'm looking to even out my skintone and am looking for products that bring down redness. Any recommendations? High end and drugstore recommendations are fine, I just want something effective. Should I do a lotion or a toner? Not sure what to do - I exfoliate, wear SPF, and bb creams

try using moisturizer before you go to bed and in the morning before you put on your makeup. it will help the dry skin. you can try using a soothing moisturizer for the red patches. i had the same problem but i just started using the neutrogena soothing cream and it works great!

Well, to be honest with you it's going to be next to impossible to rid yourself of redness while also treating dark spots or acne scarring. A good inexpensive spot lightener is the Ambi Fade Cream. When I used to use this, I mixed it in with my regular night cream and then during the day I would use Mederma or Scarzone scar treatment cream under my makeup since it's not as heavy and works as a good makeup primer. Higher end ones? I like the Origins Modern Fusion serum (discontinued) as well as the Clinique Even Better Clinical night time serum. But using any of these treatments will make the spots a bright pink color before they fade and may irritate the rest of your skin since that is essentially what they are made to do to promote even tone and skin cell regeneration.
I would maybe switch to a gentle cleanser and gentle makeup remover to minimize redness as much as possible when using any kind of skin treatment and pickup a green tinted primer to color correct before you apply foundation/tm. Hope that helped!

oh wow you all are awesome! I keep checking this topic to get new product ideas, thanks for taking the time to answer my question ( and so thoroughly) will try most of these and see what comes of it. Didn't hear of a lot of these so you're all lifesavers :)
If i had to just pick one issue, it would be redness, the dark spots or scarring from acne is literally like three or four spots but the redness is all over my nose, my cheeks, a bit on my forehead.

You want to dry out the area not moisturize it. That will make it worse

Umm.. That is a bad suggestion^.. If you dry out anything but a pimple your skin just overproduces oil to compensate.

I have trouble with redness too, and sometimes my foundation just doesnt cover it, but if I use the Makeup forever HD primer #1 (the green one). Formulated with special mineral reflectors, this primer in green helps minimize the appearance of redness on the skin. I swear by this stuff, then my foundation stays all day too because it is a primer and redness doesn't show through my foundation either! :) http://www.sephora.com/hd-microperfecting-primer-P217906

Alyse is right, drying the area out would cause the skin to become irritated, and then lead to breakouts from over-production of oils.
If you are just concerned about redness, maybe your cleanser is too harsh? Try switching to a hypo-allergenic gentle cleanser and use foundation/primer to color correct.

Try Clinique's Redness Solutions line. The Beauty Advisor will give you a free consultation and maybe even a few samples for you to take home so you can take the time to decide if it works for you or not. They are also very helpful in understanding the causes of redness and telling you how to prevent it if possible.

Try calming products with cooling attributes. If you eat spicy foods try to cut back as this plays a part in the redness your seeing. Your cleanser may also be too harsh. Usually your skin is telling you something. Redness->heat, dryness->lack of moisture etc
