I was wondering how many of you who post makeup tutorials on youtube using a webcam are sucessful in gaining alot of viewers/subscribers? I want to eventually branch out into the world of a guru on youtube. I know i have what it takes but right now i can not afford a high end camera to film those tutorials.

If the quality of the webcam isn't good you probably won't get a lot of views/subscribers. I know from experience but you can find a great camera for less if you browse around online. Hope this is helpful.

Ashley girl ive been wanting to make youtube videos for awhile now,im already shy and nervous to do them in the first place lol so if i dont get the reaction from viewers i want because of the camera i have thats not going to help me at all .

Personally, I tend to skip videos filmed on webcams (for makeup tutorials anyway) as its just not clear enough. If it was just a talking video or favorites video it's fine but for tutorials you definitely want a clear cam with good lighting :) good luck!

I was going to suggest recording using your iPhone also. The quality is surprisingly really good! It is definitely a good alternative to using a webcam that people sometimes forget about :)

@ashley maybe i should try it and see how it comes out. Does anyone use a specific software to edit your videos

I think the built-in webcam that comes with laptop are no good at all, but an external webcam should be fine for basic reviews (I've used a Logitech C310 for reviews in the past). If you want to zoom in on products to show the name or ingredients, then you'll need an actual camera with a high optical zoom.
For editing, I've used Windows Movie Maker, but if you have a Mac, I hear iMovie is relatively good.
