Hi Beautylish Beauties!
I'm have my own skin care line-- http://www.nectarskincare.com and I wanted your input on a few things. I intend for the line to be a higher-end natural skincare option for the fashion-forward and beauty conscious. So, of course, I'd like for the packaging to be elegant and modern. I am repackaging and redesigning my products, and I was just wondering... when you buy products, what do you prefer?
Glass packaging or plastic?
Whimsical Product Names or Practical Product Names?
Cute product descriptions or straightforward descriptions?
Let me know what you think, I'd love to hear your opinions. If you can, post examples of brands or products! I need some inspiration! :)
Thanks--

Plastic because I don't care to much about the packaging I just want the goods inside lol. I love whimisical names because they catch my eye more when I looking for a new prouct than the same ol Dick and Jane names. I like cute product descriptions because it feels like the maker included me into the reason for making the products! Hope that helps hun ")

Recyclable packaging is very important to me. It's a big decision maker if I'm comparing two similar products...I'll go with the one who is most "eco-friendly". As far as names...I'm "drawn" to whimsical, such as Lime Crime cosmetics, Bliss Spa products and even Philosophy. I mean, come on, Candy Eye Eyeshadow Helper...Fabulous Foaming Face Wash...and The Present (clear makeup) are some of my favorite products and I was initially drawn to each of them because of the name. :-)

Glass is a recyclable option. But personally, I break things. I feel like glass is a luxury option-- Hm... still need more input!

I LOVE packaging. I like the glass look ( that is if I don't travel with it can be heavy ). If it is made to be compact to travel then plastic. I thinks straight forward discriptions is best. You want to make sure that the customers know what is in the products : )

I prefer glass - just because paint pots and other liquid/cream products dry out faster in plastic packaging. When I purchased my MUFE aqua creams, I was highly disappointed with the fact it came in plastic. Also, plastic can leech chemicals into your products over prolonged periods and exposure to sun/heat or if there is an acid content in your formulas.
For products that get used up quickly like foundations - I don't mind and prefer plastic, since it's more lightweight for transport. Since I know foundations run out faster than any other products, I don't have to worry about prolonged exposure to any chemicals that can leech into my formula.
As for names, I do prefer whimsy... but nothing obnoxious or overly cutesy. Clever play on words is the better way to say it, or dreamlike appeals to me more. I'm not too sure if I'd like to tell my friends my blush color is called "Boo-boo Kitty-F*ck" if you know what I mean. =P

Thanks guys! I set up a survey on my website if you want to share more information about beauty products and your favorite brands. I'm a big nerd, so the more research I can do, the better!

GLASS. By FAR. The thing with plastic is that no matter what "highest grade" of plastic you can find, it's still porous, therefore the plastic can melt into the product and change the formulations that you've worked so hard on ;)
Glass is not porous and what I love is that, because of that, you can use less preservatives, and your product will last just as long as a product that did.
Also, Glass definitely just looks more sleek and chic to me. And if you have a vacuum sealed top that you can't unscrew, (Ren is vacuum sealed if you need a reference, but not glass), you can probably make it so that there are NO preservatives. :)

Glass 10000000%! Like Steff J. mentioned, I don't like plastic in general for packaging because it can leach into the products it holds.
I also feel as though glass literally feels higher-end and it's recyclable! I've seen seals for glass jars that you stick onto the opening and then it stays sealed until you break it, which is pretty convenient!
Depending on where you live, Sunburst Bottle Company is one company I've purchased glass storage from in the past if you're looking for a company with decent prices. If I receive something in plastic I move it to glass (neurotic, I know!). This is their site http://www.sunburstbottle.com/
When it comes to names I love creativity! I don't care if it's funny, cute (though I tend to stray from super cutesy), sexy, slightly risque, etc.
As far as product descriptions go, I really think it should reflect your brand. I'm a copywriter by trade and I've worked with cosmetic companies in the past. Your content will brand your company, so make sure you love it and that it represents the personality of your company regardless of the direction you go!
That's my 2 cents ;)

Glass. I personally think it looks much nicer and more fitting for a luxury or high-end brand, than plastic. I normally would invest more money into a product that had nicer packaging than a similar product that had generic packaging. In that same aspect, I would purchase the lower cost item that had similar, as opposed to paying more for the brand.

I am more of a plastic container user since it tends to be cheaper and easier to store without fear of breaking it. Though I love glass packaging because it makes it seem more high end. Also I like more whimsical names for products that catch my eye. I love a good play on words title. Such as Eye Candy, or Lip Service. Things along those lines.
Your products look great. I filled out your survey and would love to get some samples. I've been looking for a new skincare routine because what I'm doing now just isn't cutting it.
