I'm considering doing just a over the counter home whitening kit. Has anyone had good results with any of these or have a good recommendation? and are any of you coffee or tea drinkers :) thanks so much

Waste of money. Here's why I found them to be a waste.
I was given several samples of the Crest Whitening 2 Hour Strips and didn't see a change in my daughter's teeth. No idea about the other ones but the 2 Hour ones are junk. She's used the whitening mouthwash - store brand and Crest - and no difference. In the end she had to see the dentist to get her teeth professionally bleached. Now with my youngest daughter it did help a bit but not as well as the commercials lead people to believe. I'm currently using the new one by Colgate and it's okay.
You get better results if you use a baking soda + peroxide paste (a teaspoon of baking soda and enough hydrogen peroxide to make a paste) and using that when you brush your teeth. Brush your teeth with paste mixture, rinse then rebrush with normal toothpaste to remove the grit and taste of the paste mixture. You can also make your own hydrogen peroxide mouthwash. I remember on old bottle of peroxide there use to be instructions on making it but generic store brands don't put those instructions anymore but if I recall correctly it's a 1:1 ratio.
I don't recommend using this on a long term basis though especially if you have tooth sensitivity, cavities, filings or weak teeth since hydrogen peroxide - even in commercial toothpaste and mouthwash - can eat away at the enamel.

Baking soda on its own should work, but take a while to see results.

Yes there is Fernanda but it's not straight baking soda.

Crest whitestrips rock! I used the 30 minute ones and got good results... then the 2 hour ones. My husband and I had amazing results :) But with both of them together they were of course better then just using one.

Wow!! Thanks so much everyone. So I just used the baking soda and maybe it is the placebo effect but i did notice a wee bit difference. The i brushed with Crest extra whitening, flossed and voila! Im going to use the baking soda every 2-3 days and i will report back.

I personally use Crest Strips Advance and they work awesome! I am a coffee drinker and I use to smoke when I was younger and my teeth started turning yellow. I used one box and I noticed about after a week of using them my teeth were white. The only thing I didn't like is after a week from using them everyday my teeth became very sensitive. I had to start using them every other day :( I am going to get another box soon.

ah so this is what I've been doing and I seriously noticed a slight change in 3 days. I start with Listerine's Whitening Pre-Rinse Mouthwash for 60 seconds (that's a really long time, btw) and then just normal Crest Whitening toothpaste and then flossing. I think I'll do the baking soda once or twice a week in place of the mouthwash. I can feel it exfoliating my teeth. I just dip my brush in pure baking soda. Just enough to coat the bristles, but very light. :) How fun to share my teeth brushing routine! Thanks ladies

The reason, @Annalese, you teeth became sensitive was because the enamel on your teeth were being eaten away. Once enamel is gone it's gone for good. It's another reason I dislike the strips so much.

My dentist actually told me not to do the Zoom procedure with my teeth since I am only a light smoker and drink soda sparingly that I didn't need it. He too, recommended hydrogen peroxide, but he advised me to gargle it diluted with water and to only do it at most once a week or so. Whenever I go out on the weekends, or have a long night I will sometimes brush with a little baking soda sprinkles on my favorite toothpaste and it seems to immediately give a refreshing whitening affect and it feels super clean. Just remember to keep in moderation, cause it can cause enamel damage. Hope I could save you some moolah!
