A friend and I are starting a lifestyle blog that plans to discuss makeup, how to live a greener live, photography, and so forth ...

Since we are just starting out, we want to do things the right way, especially because this is a really important project for us (we're very excited!). So we were wondering since we plan on doing makeup reviews, etc. if we need to have a disclaimer about non-sponsored vs. sponsored reviews so early, especially considering we have *not* received product to review and probably will not for a while.

Please let us know what you think, we really appreciate it :)

(P.S., Sorry about the little typo in the title, d'oh)

I don't think it really matters if you're just starting off until you begin receiving sponsored products... but on the other hand, it can't hurt. :)

If you're in the US you are required under Federal law to use a disclaimer regardless. In the UK they have their own laws.

A disclaimer can be as simple as my own:

FTC Disclaimer: Not affiliated with nor compensated by _______. Products purchased by me for my own personal use.

FTC Disclaimer: Not affiliated or compensated by companies listed here except I do get 50 points from Birchbox if you sign up via my referral link. I can use the points for $10 off future purchases.

FTC Disclaimer: Links provided in this entry are referral links to which I earn a credit towards ordering shoes. I do not receive any other financial incentives nor am I endorsed by either Sole Society or Shoe Dazzle. I'm a shoe lover and you'll get my honest opinion on the topic be it good or bad. You are under no obligation to click on the links or sign up via my referral links much less place an order with either company.

On the bottom of my main blog I have this written:

FTC Disclaimer
I am not affiliated with or compensated by the companies mentioned in my blog unless otherwise noted.

I am affiliated with Amazon.com and earn a small commission on purchases made through links provided. I am also affilated with HauteLook, ShoeDazzle and Sole Society and earn credits if you sign up and order from those companies via my referral links. No other compensation or affiliation with those companies unless otherwise noted. Referral and affiliations with those companies will not influence my opinions on the products mentioned in the blog entries.

My Birchbox referral link earns me 50 pts for each person who signs up via my referral and places and order with Birchbox. I receive no other compensation and am not affiliated with Birchbox.
