I use the pro naturals shampoo and conditioner and I highly recommend them. They are made with real argan oil and not only do they moisturize the hair completely, they are sulfate, alcohol & chemical free. Plus, their smells is good and soft.

While I am not Asian, my daughter is part Jamaican and we have a very hard time with her coarse, curly hair and have found that Pro Naturals hair care works like no other. It leaves her hair smooth, shiny and incredibly soft. I use it as well and while my hair is much different than hers it works just as well. Perhaps worth a try :)

Another good brand that is really popular in Asia is sunsilk! I like their hydra tlc line! :)! & it's avail. at Target! :)

@Nu Nu Dollie N. that gives me hope! I actually just tried one of Alterna's Bamboo shampoo and conditioners and I was shocked my hair didn't get oily the next day! That is nuts to me. I'll definitely look up Tsubaki. I need to have my sister send over some stuff from Japan.

I have 100% asian hair that gets oily easily, and it very thick and coarse! You should try an Asian brand like Tsubaki-works wonders! & what I love best about it is that my hair doesn't build up an "immunity" to it or "get used to" it so it just keeps on working!

I use the shampoo and conditioner in the white bottle. It leaves my hair so soft, smooth, manageable and not a lot of fallout in the shower either. Sometimes I skip the conditioner and it doesn't get tangly or frizzy. The scent lingers for a long time too. Love it!

For shampoo I'm still looking, hoping to be John Frieda's (yet to use). As for conditioner, LUSH American Cream is by far my favorite, it's not like other conditioner that just simply smoothen the hair leaving them too weightless, but it gives my hair strength (i have thin and fine hair) and I feel it instantly while squeezing them dry.
Another good one is John Frieda's Luxurious Volumizing Conditioner, it strengthens my hair pretty well also and need to only use little!!

@Steff Thanks for the tips! I'm all for sulfate-free shampoos whenever possible simply because of the possible health risks associated with SLS and such.
Just to be clear so that nobody thinks I'm make HUGE unfounded generalizations haha, I wasn't generalizing to the point of saying every single Asian female/male has identical hair (especially given the broad range of countries in Asia), however, there are certainly many common hair traits among those of Asian descent. For example, there's a reason many of us can't perm our hair successfully (and as a result Digital Perms have become more in-vogue for Asian women/men). There are actually many studies that point to the fact that genetics determines the shape of our hair follicles, which as we all know determines the type of hair we have--linking ethnicity to hair types. Super interesting stuff!

It's not a matter of what ethnicity you are when it comes to hair, but the actual width of your hair BAND, the texture, and what kind of outcome you want. Of course, sulfate free shampoos are always going to be great options. For volume, Living Proof's Full shampoo and conditioner are amazing, as the shampoo's sulfate free, and the conditioner is oil and silicone free. Now, like a lot of other conditioners, because it is silicone free, it's not coating the hair so it doesn't FEEL softer right away, but the overall health of your hair will better.

@Raychel Thanks so much! Interesting suggestion! You know, it's ironic but I look at volumizing shampoos and think ... would this work? I try everything from straight to curly, ultra moisturizing to clarifying. Oh shampoo, such a pain in the butt. I need one with a flashing sign that says: THIS WILL WORK FOR YOU EVERY TIME!!! ;)

Interesting suggestions ladies! I have extremely thick, coarse hair, but if I use something too thick it makes my hair too oily and heavily. If it strips it too much I can barely brush it! My sister just came back from Japan and is going back in several weeks. I think I'm going to make her send me a few brands to try. Gotta find something that works!

i have 100% asian hair as well. bone straight, but kinda thin. so i wasnt blessed with the thick hair lol. i use joico daily shampoo. super simple shampoo but makes my hair nice and shiny. also gets it squeaky clean :)

Hey DJ M. I'm of South Asian descent, so my hair is very thick and coarse apparently. I've been doing a number of trial and errors throughout the years. From Sunsilk to L'oreal. Currently I'm using Dove Intense Repair and I think imma stick to it til the end. So glad i've found the one. yeay!
There's another shampoo/conditioner line called Asience, specially formulated for Asian hair. I'm not sure if it's available in The States. It's quite a rave in Asia. Even a friend of mine is a firm believer of Asience! =)

I'm half Japanese and my hair is 100% asian in nature. I have made it a lifelong career to A. get the perfect haircut that doesn't look horrible with my hair B. find that holy grail shampoo and conditioner. I personally find that I have to change shampoo and conditioner after every other bottle is gone. I would say of all the shampoos I've tried so far, Bumble and Bumble is probably one of my favorites. I have used many of the different types they offer like Let it Shine, creme de coco, etc., but I think the seaweed shampoo and conditioner are my favorite. But again, I have to keep switching it up.
What about you? Have you found a brand that always does it for your Asian hair?
