I started my blog back in november 2011. My first idea to develop my blog was just sharing my beauty & fashion videos, as well as my vlog videos. As my blog grew, I wanted to share my thoughts about beauty, style, and fashion. So, I started incorporating posts and pictures into my blog.
Now, my blog has grew sucessfully. I recieved some wonderful feedback, people enjoy my posts and videos, recieved many oppertunities for guest posts on other blogs, I recieved 63 followers (I know it's not much, but I am greatful), and 5,000+ views. It is still growing sucessfully, and I just look at my blog as my greatest accomplishment. Along with my YouTube beauty channel.

Hi!
I was wondering when did everyone blog start to take off? also how?
much love

I started my blog late July last year, and I think just showing it to people on beautylish and asking bigger bloggers (without spamming) to check it out was what helped it get its feet off the ground. In just 7 months I've had nearly 3000 views and got 144 followers, which isn't a lot to some people, but I haven't accomplished much so that means a lot to me :)

thank you! you've accomplished a lot! just checked out your blog its great!

Aww thank you! :)

It took a while for me. I started to give up at one point but I kept going and just experimented with what viewers would comment more on. Also, don't hesitate to check out other blogs for ideas to incorporate into your own. As of now I have about 135 followers with over 16,000 views. I also just had my first giveaway after reaching 50 followers.

I actually started at the end on 2010, but just a few posts. I have become serious about it in just the last 3 months and just hit 1000 views in 35 posts! The most important thing for me is to be authentic and not write to get views and followers. Write because you love it!

I started Pirouette Makeup on YouTube back in May 2011. What helped me a lot was consistency in uploading my videos (I do one a week, every single week) so my subscribers knew there will be fresh content every week. So stay consistent with your posts.
Plus, my channel's dedicated to cruelty-free makeup tutorials, so that also had the vegan community talking. If you have a specific niche, reach out to the people in that community and maybe ask to interview them. That way when their interview is up, they will start sharing your blog with their followers as well. Best of luck to you! <3

Mine hasn't exactly taken off. But hopefully one day! I just blog about what i love, and try to review a variety of things. Rather than be one of hundreds blogging about the same product. Slowly but surely growing :)

I hasn't taken off.. I havent anything posted yet! Although I hope to change that soon! :)

I would not consider my blog as one that has taken off, but I will say that I notice the biggest amount of followings when I stop focusing on the numbers and start focusing on consistent, quality content with clear photos/video quality.

Great topic! I have been blogging for over a year (on my lifestyle blog) and just a few months on my beauty and style blog. I find I do it every morning because I love writing. I just remain faithful that by networking on sites like this and supporting one another our blogs will take off eventually. Be Blessed!

i first started blogging in 2009 since i had spare time but one of my friend and I got in a fight so he hacked into all my accounts & deleted my blogs. Frustrated i never blogged again until in the mid-2010 haha. :)

Hi Siddiqa, some blogs soar high in just 6 months some stay less followed even after 2-3 years.. it entirely depends as to what your blog focus is/ target audience. Also posting twice a week helps in keeping readers stick around... also staying in touch with fellow bloggers, doing guest posts, giveaways gain lots of interest ... I have started blog a year back and have 117 followers now :)... Happy blogging

Mine hasn't really "taken off" but I started posting to my blog in mid October so it's about 4 months old and all of the sudden I'm starting to get between 150-200 views a day, and a couple comments a day from loyal reader/commenters. I've had a little over 7,000 views to date, and I have 78 followers including twitter followers. I only have like 24 email followers. I'm not really in a position to give advice, but what I try to do is really network and show appreciation for other people's blogs. I never spam and always link to my inspiration or awesome nails I've seen, etc. I really want my blog to be part of the whole beauty blog community so I try to really stay in touch with people (at least those who want to stay in touch with me! haha). I just keep blogging and try to do stuff I enjoy. :) I hope that helps!

I started my blog - http://prettymaking.com -- back in January 2011 but didn't really become committed to posting until March of 2011. I was so excited when I had my first follower!
Since then, my follower count has hit 910+ and I average about 21,000 views per month. (Blog has has 130,000 views since its inception.)
A huge part of blogging is making sure that you are happy with it. It needs to be fun. When you stop having fun, then you'll lose your passion. Don't focus on numbers, but focus on quality. Interact with your readers and get to know them. I would rather have 50 followers who comment and regularly interact with me on my blog than 5000 followers who never comment once. It's important to appreciate the people who visit you and honestly love what you put out.

My blog kind of started to take off maybe 2-3 mos. after I put some serious effort into posting and promoting... but once life got busy and posting became less and less frequent, the activity has gone back to ZERO. It's a sad ghost town now since I've been on a bit of a hiatus due to a busy schedule...
Readers really do respond to frequent posts about relevant topics, commenting back and answering correspondence. The easiest way for me to suggest how to bring readers to your blog is to offer a tutorial catered to certain question topics on the board. If someone posts about how to contour lips or do a certain makeup look on the threads, offer a video you made personally for that person's question and post your video/blog answer to it. It shows that you are helpful, thoughtful and truly interested in helping those in a community that shares your passion. Curious on-lookers also wondering the same question will be able to say, "Hey, I was thinking just the same thing, and this person conveniently went out of their way to show me the answer!" - if it's good content, they'll subscribe. =)
Don't do the sub-for-a-sub... it's pointless if you have "readers" that don't even care to "read" your content on your blog, same goes for videos. People will always recognize true talent, you just have to keep at it and find a way to produce what people want and something you can give to them. Hope that helps!

Gosh I am so glad I found this thread. I have a blog (glosssauce.com) and it has yet hit the status that I would really love. I have yet to find a posting schedule that works for me, balancing being a mom to 3 small ones, filming, posting, etc has proven to be harder then i anticipated. So reading all your suggestions and experiences has been really helpful, thanks so much!
My goal is to post at least twice a week (hopefully every other day) and film twice a week.

Oh, and here's a link that I think would be helpful to EVERYONE, and not just major commercial brands when it comes to social media etiquette: http://www.imediaconnection.com/con...
I think a lot of aspiring bloggers/gurus mess up because they want to be themselves, but forget that not everyone understands your personality, your tone, or your sense of humor when responding to people. It's sad because everyone sees what you say and do, and it's very easy for them to attack you when you might have meant one thing, but they misunderstood your words for something else. These apply to how companies/your own "brand" SHOULD deal with bad feedback, and can be applied to your own way of communicating with your readers as well. I'm just sharing what my company shared with me in hopes it will help you better understand how people might react to how you handle haters via social media. You're welcome. =P
