CeraVe or Cetaphil

My skin has become extremely dry over the last few days, and I normally have fairly oily skin despite having eczema. I have been doing research on moisturizers and narrowed it down to CeraVe and Cetaphil since they are supposed to be good for dry, sensitive skin. Now my question is which one is better? Or are they about they same?

They are about the same, but if you had to choose between the two I would say Cetaphil. Their facewash is great too, it just kind of takes some getting used to since it doesn't really sud up. But for me, nothing will ever beat the Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel from Clinique. That moisturizer is absolutely amazing.

Cetaphil is amazing, but I have no past experience with CeraVe to compare :) I'm impressed by Cetaphil face cleansers and know a lot of other beauty lovers with sensitive skin that find they can use it too! I have combination skin that is very sensitive and I get eczema (though only occasionally anywhere near my face) and use the sensitive Cetaphil face cleanser daily. For moisturizers I use a Weleda rose one that's SUPER natural. Most other moisturizers leave my skin feeling awful or it bugs the crap out of it haha. Good luck!

Definitely Cetaphil!

I work for a dermatologist here in NY and we have A TON of patients just like you. You definitely want to stay away from anything with harsh chemicals. We suggest a bunch of different things to try--Cerave and Cetaphil are the top two favorites, though I, myself, use cetaphil on the face (they have a soap specifically for the face that is WITH soap and suds up, on the body (daily cleanser--soapless and does not suds up), and as a moisturizer (cream in the tub).

I will say that creams get absorbed better into your skin than lotion. What I tell my patients when I give them what the dr. likes to call "Dry Skin Lecture", I always express the importance of moisturizing your skin AS SOON as you get out of the shower. You can moisturize throughout the day, however, the idea of doing it as soon as you are out of the shower is to trap any residual water from your shower into your skin with the cream. Commit to moisturizing extra dry spots 4-8 times throughout the day. You can buy little travel sized creams and lotions at your local drug store.

Also, do not take long showers in extreme temperature. Keep it below 10 minutes (shave outside of the shower) and use water comfortable to the skin but nothing too hot or too cold as extreme temperatures dry out your skin so much more.

Hope this was helpful. I have pretty bad eczema, especially in this dry winter months. I swear by Cetaphil.

Sorry this was such a BOOK! But I do hope it helps someone out there.

I tried Cetaphil and at first I liked it. Then I started noticing it irritated my skin, so I stopped using it.

I really prefer CeraVe...it has some great ingredients that work well to repair and moisturize damaged skin. Cetaphil is good as well I think, though I've found that the moisturizer burns my skin when I put it on after cleansing, so if you have sensitive skin I think CeraVe may be the best option. :)

CeraVe... Cetaphil was a gentle cleanser, but too gentle. CeraVe has high end ingredients for super cheap, and their moisturizers actually makes a difference that is noticeable on my skin. Both are quite affordable, so try both for yourself if you can!

CeraVe all the way!! Have used it for years, suggested by my dermatologist for my combination skin. It's soo much more creamier and richer than cetaphil. It's a true beauty-saver. When my skin is super dry I apply CeraVe generously and voilà...by day 2 my dryness has is nonexistent. Plus, it won't break my face out! A true must-have:)

i have rosacea AND eczema on my face, and ive tried cetaphil and it didn't burn or anything, the only thing i didn't like about the cleansers is it didn't take of my makeup..i had to add extra steps just to use it. the cetaphil soap, ive tried that, and like it better than the cleanser, just because it allowed me to skip a step without having to use something else to get the makeup off..

..but i really like Aveeno oatmeal soap..its super gentle and doesn't bother my face at all, and takes off my makeup without drying my skin out. so one step and my face is clean and makeup free.

i haven't tried ceraVe, but after the other comments, i know id like to try it. :)

ive also heard great things about clinique moisturizers. my friend has oily combination skin, and has trouble with acne, and she loves clinique. they are also hypoallergenic, which is a bonus for eczema, so i want to try that as well..

for a moisturizer, pre makeup i use one called Rosaliac by La Roche Posay. and its green so it helps calm redness and a little goes along way :) alsooo..sometime when my skin is really dry (around my chin is the worst) ill use a bit of vaseline. it says dermatologist testing...but i was worried about breakouts cause its a jelly...but i havent had a problem with it..and it doesn't burn my ezema either. :)

sorry it's a long post haha, but i thought id share :)

Just like Soma, CeraVe!!! Give it a shot. I know I did, when I came here being very down and at my whits-end (sp?) because I gave everything a shot (from department stores, other drug stores like Cetaphil, organic, online, yadda yadda yadda). I didn't know Soma, but that little voice in my head told me to listen to her and give this brand a shot!

Saved my skin!! I had horrible cystic acne, and now... I believe my skin is at it's best it's been for yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeears!

I would use Cetaphil for your face and CervaVe for your body! I had to use both for my skin when I was on a medicine that dried it out! They both work really well!
