Just curious of what NOT to do on my blog. I want to know do you prefer well written posts or a bullet-ed list of facts/pros-cons. I know what makes or breaks a channel or blog for me is if the poster stays on topic! I wanna know what you think! =]

I prefer a bullet list of facts. I hate reading a whole book on the subject they are blogging about, lol. Also, sometimes I try to scan through the post if they write too much and I totally miss the point of it!

What I don't like in a YouTube Channel:
-Repeating the same adjectives over and over (ex. awesome, amazing, etc)
-Bad lighting
-Too much jibber jabber (but a little is ok)
-No sense of humor - I don't like it when these girls take themselves too seriously

Hahah... Susanna F., I completely agree with your first statement! I once dated a guy that constantly used the word "amazing" to describe things... Granted, he was pretty to look at, but after realizing his vocabulary limited him to using the following words to describe things:
Amazing, amazing-ness, amazed, and my least favorite: amazer-ling...
...I dropped him so quick, it was AMAZING. Some people shock me with their limited vocab on YouTube sometimes... But I like watching gurus that learn from the criticism from their viewers... Shows that they're a good sport, and they're willing to adapt.

I tend to do some writing, but mostly bullet points! :D

i've been doing a few posts lately, trying to get back in the hang of things and all and i've been trying to keep it sweet and short. i don't like to use bullets where it'll seem too uninformative (if that's even a word) lol. i like to think of it as me talking to friends or something. i never want to sound like i'm trying to sell a product by being all super professional and telling people to buy this and that and all that jibberish. ive noticed many gurus who have changed dramatically within some time because they get used to doing things for these companies. dont get me wrong, kudo's to them for pursuing their dreams but i think there's always that point where it just seems like its not real anymore.

I like it on a blog when I feel like they're talking to me personally and they keep it short and sweet(: personally though, i prefer blogs that give more things to do with the stuff I can find in my kitchen rather than trying to sell products. i also like it when they don't try to keep the best finds on youtube a secret and they tell us about a youtube guru who's new to the whole thing but has amazing videos. they dont have to really be specifically all of these things, but definitely friendly with their own spontaneous sense of humor keeps me there.
not too many things keep me from walking away from a blog or youtube, but there are a few that i cant think of right now lol

i like when the person is fun and real and relatable!
i hate when you are watching someone and they are so dull and boring.

@Soma, I think we've dated the same guy! :D
For blogs I look for quality photos that they've taken themselves. I don't need a lot of explanation, but just why they liked the product or not.
For YouTube I look for a down to earth personality who doesn't shout at the camera.

I agree with Heather(:

This has been so helpful and informative I am going to try to keep all of these tips in mind when I am writing a post. As for me, I love when youtubers stay on topic and don't start rambling about something that has nothing to do with the video! When it comes to blogs, I like a little bit of writing with a bulleted pros and cons list. I try to do this with mine but will definitely start considering everything that was mentioned here! Thanks guys! =]

I love humor. If you can make me laugh then I'm hooked. Nothing is worse than a dry blog/YT.

These tips are great :) I myself love humor, great personality, honesty, and good quality....but I understand that people struggle with having good quality for a while (like me) I love making videos though and have every thing that I look for I think :)
I don't like when gurus are fake or seem stuck up. I also don't like gurus that won't help the little gurus out there. It is hard to get your channel noticed and everyone should help eachother :)

I won't even bother if the camera is poor quality. That just gets in the way of everything.

I love when people are relaxed and fun and not so businessy. I want to read or watch something and smile but still be informed, not feel like I'm being lectured.(:

There are a couple things that will make me completely leave the video within the first 5 seconds:
-- poor sound
-- poor lighting
-- too long of an intro
-- bad eyebrows (I dunno, I'm just a weirdo like that)
-- if i can't tell they have makeup on at all
-- if their makeup looks sloppy or generally not done well
-- if they seem obsessed with high end brand names
-- and tons of tangents!!! I have no problem with people explaining what products they use and why, but to go off and say "i wore this last week at my friend kim's house and kim liked it a lot so kim got one too and she wore hers to anthony's party but hers started smearing and he was like 'oh wow you look like you got punched in the eye'" is a little much

I think a great YouTube channel is one that gives honest reviews and opinions. Nothing makes me more angry than when I've watched a video and then scroll down the info bar to see that the video was sponsored by the company/brand the guru is pushing. It makes me a little angry, actually. And I completely understand that some of the women/girls make a living off of YouTube and have to do some sponsored videos...but the least they could do is not rave about how great it is and give an honest opinion.

^^^ I agree with Mavie M all the way

I think it depends on the person. If I'm reading a blog I like to read about the writer's personal opinions and experiences with the product and stuff like that. HATE hate hate when the blogger/YT'er says something like "this product is complete garbage" or "this product is brilliant" because what works for them might not work very well on you, and vice-versa. I prefer saying something like "I feel that this product is..." etc. That's just my opinion though. Oh and everything that Mavie said. :)

Very new to this in fact i started watching tutorials on YouTube about 4 weeks ago.. i feel like i live in a hole for not knowing how amazing YouTube can be. with that said i have spent a lot of time looking through tutorials etc and this is what makes me hit the X button..
1. poor lighting (i cant see what you are trying to show me)
2. poor sound ( sorry cant hear what you are saying)
3. You talk too much and its not about make up of what you are trying to show
4. no humor... (boring)
It may sound weird but when i find someone i like i just let their videos play.. I like to listen to them talk about make up...
I love a blog with details, and pictures.. I am a very visual person..
Also i feel that there is a lot of false advertisement about make up as it is, so an Honest opinion goes a long way.. i can care less for brands etc. what i am after is a good product..
p.s
I love YouTube and places like this, i feel like i have a bunch of girlfriends to chit chat about make up, beauty etc.. its Fantastic..

@ Ari- I KNOW this site, blogs, and youtube makes it easy to talk about makeup with people who care about it! My poor bf has to hear me go on and on sometimes haha

I think with a blog post about a product it's great to get a lot of information in there but an essay is a bit too much haha.
What turns me of a Guru
- saying something is amazing and that is it
-bad lighting
-bad sound
-No humor
-talking loads about something that has no relevance
-someone who is stuck up or rude
etc xx

I have a short attention span, so I like it when guru's get to the point and don't really ramble on aimlessly. I cannot sit in my seat for 10 minutes to watch how to apply eyeliner, lol.

PROS: Sense of humor, not afraid to be yourself, good camera, good lighting, not trying to hard and explains well.
CONS: bad lighting, bad camera, talks to much, tries too hard, dull, does makeup videos just to be popular.
:D

Im new to the blogging! However for youtube, i hate it when gurus just talk and talk about the 1 product/makeup. I like it when they get straight to the point. Dont act over excited & i hate it when they dont give you advice on how to get out their with your channel! (im from the uk too! Im sure i wont be taking anything away fromt them lol)
They need to be genuine, funny, and just down to earth! :D
