covergirl for sure. they test on animals and make horrible quality products. i feel like essie is hit and miss as well. if you like sheer pinks, then great. but i find almost all of their polishes to be streaky and not worth the high price.

If you really are concerned about animal cruelty in makeup you can refer to peta's lists of companies that do and do not test on animals or mymakeupmirror.com. The difference between the two websites being the woman who runs my make up mirror does the research herself while peta only adds companies to their list who volunteer/ask/etc. Whether or not you agree with them is fine but I've found their lists to be reliable and accurate and cover not just make up but other personal care items. You don't have to browse through lists on online to shop for cruelty free products. You simply can keep an eye out for the bunny logo. It is an easy and quick way to identify cruelty free products. Products that carry the bunny label do not "conduct or commission any animal tests on ingredients, formulations, or finished products and that they pledge not to do so in the future." Just because a product doesn't have the bunny logo doesn't mean the company does test on animals it means they haven't joined peta's list. I hope this helps anyone looking for a way to choose animal friendly products.

Yeah covergirl sucks ..maybelline is close to covergirl

This is one of those topics that's hard to narrow down since beauty products don't work out the same way for everyone. A lot of people go bananas over e.l.f., but I've tried a ton of their stuff hoping that it would be great since it's so cheap and gets a lot of rave reviews and literally NOTHING from that brand has remotely impressed me. CoverGirl and NYC don't work for me either. Smashbox eye shadows are probably the worst for me and their lip products are pretty run of the mill, I would never pay full price for anything from that line.

@Freddie B. Covergirl tests, and isn't certified Leaping Bunny. Under leaingbunny.com and happycow.net it is listed as companies to boycott. The reason Ellen gets scandal for her selling of the product is that she is vegan, and is an advocate for the lifestyle, as her show depicts. Yet she is the face of CG.

Probably covergirl. Now I love their NatureLuxe Foundation but their lipsticks are known to have one of the highest amounts of lead, and there is no safe amount of lead so the fact that theirs is the highest says it all.

I've been quite disappointed by NYX, considering how many beauty gurus use them. I suppose most drugstore products are kind of like playing the lottery... you win some, you lose some. Although I have had good luck with Elf so far, I'm not nuts about the essential line lipsticks, I hate their concealer (but that was a gift, so...) and loathe the Studio spf 40 loose powder because IT'S RED. LIKE, BRICK RED.
I love the Elf Eye Elements in Dusk, Mocha and Moondust, they're so vavavoom.

Almay is utter crap to me. They have drab colors and lackluster performance. Working with clients, most of them need products that will stand up to the heat of studio lights and/or sweat and Almay does neither. I can find better neutrals (which is really all they offer) with Wet 'n Wild that lasts 10 times better and at a fraction of the cost.

wow so many people hate covergirl! I still think they make the best mascara, lashblast.
Most of the products that the drugstore brands advertise like crazy never really deliver what they promise.

one brand i will never try again is bourjois, there products are terrible and somewhat over priced for a drug store brand.

Covergirl is the WORST!!! Covergirl's foundations made me break out, and they come off really easy, so I switched to Rimmel's Clean Finish Foundation and I LOVE it!!! But my faves are Rimmel, Wet 'N' Wild, Elf, Hard Candy, Kat Von D, Lime Crime, Sugarpill, Sleek. :)

@Josette S. I have had the same experience with smash box but i have been very fortunate with elf only finding one miss with all my elf purchases.

@ Kate C. I too am not a big fan of loreal, every hip product I have tried by them has been a disappointment. the only thing by them I have enjoyed is their color riche lipstick.. As for rimmel I have a growing collection of their products because I can't resist the adorable packaging. I have not found anything by them that impressed me though until I tried the Glam'Eyes HD. The eyeshadow pallets are extremely high quality soft smooth and bold. well worth the 5 dollars I spent on mine.

In my opinion I think maybelline and covergirl SUCK...

covergirl. not only is the packaging bad because it breaks and is ugly the makeup itself is bad quality and wears off fast. plus, the foundations are terrible. i bought a "ivory" one for a lady gaga costume and it was waaaay to dark for the ivory color. it was almost honey with orange undertone.. uhg!!!

I have a lot of wins with maybelline, virtually all my maybelline products have been wonderful. My favorites are maybelline eyestudio which has wonderfully soft rich pigments.

I am impressed with Covergirl lipstick, i have 3 colors that i love.Kiss which is a lovely golden coral, divine which is a plastic barbie nicki minaj purple, and embrace which is a rich magenta shimmer.

Hard Candy has probably been my favorite drug store brand, followed by essence

I hate NYC. Their eyeliners are terrible, and always make my eyes sore. The only product i've tried and found half way decent was their liquid liner. Also I'm not a fan of covergirl, I really only like Lash Blast.

I absolutely love Maybelline, Hard Candy, and Revlon as far as drugstore brands go. Also Prestige and L.A Splash.
